Ocean Magic Adventure May 31

The sun shone, the seas were flat calm as the 12.15 Ocean Magic headed north up Haro Strait once out of the harbour. Capt. Scott and our all male crew of naturalists, Dan and Brandon provided our guests with a fun filled and educational trip as we encountered some of the wildlife found here on the westcoast. A group of five Transient Orca were reported just south of Active Pass where the BC ferry boats use this corridor to head to and from Vancouver. We found not only the T 90’s with their little calf but also T87, a big male with a distinct notch out of his dorsal fin. These are the apex predators of the marine environment. A few Harbour and Dall’s Porpoise, several swimming Harbour Seals, and sea birds added interest to this trip. We also observed the Pacific Swift, tall ship of the S.A.L.T.organization, and the ‘Prince of Whales’ sister vessel ‘Ocean Magic’ heading from Vancouver. What a great trip, once again, full of westcoast wildlife for our international guests.
