Ocean Magic Adventure Sept 19 3:30

Ocean Magic Adventure Sunday Sept.19th

With plenty of cloud around and no real threat of rain as we pulled away from the dock, our wildlife adventure was set to go at 3.30pm. Capt Scott headed the Ocean Magic south of the harbour to encounter two of five Humpback Whales reported south and west of Victoria. We spent time with two of these behemoths, admiring their gentle nature and immense size as they foraged the waters of the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Mother Humpback Whale and her calf took long, lazy dives and surfaced with huge ‘blows’ against the dark background of the Olympic shoreline. We left these mighty, baleen whales and headed toward the protected Marine Reserve of Race Rocks Lighthouse. It was here we saw sleepy Harbour and Elephant Seals on rocks. California and Steller Sea Lions were barking and growling as they jockeyed for position on their favourite perch. Several shy Harbour Porpoise were sighted briefly on our travels. With the threat of rain toward the end of our trip we were able to witness the complete arc of a beautiful rainbow. It was at that time a fishing vessel appeared to traverse the end of the rainbow. It was another special adventure with Prince of Whales.
