The sun shone, the seas were flat calm as the 9 & 12.15 Ocean Magic headed east to Haro Strait once out of the harbour. Capt. David and our crew of naturalists, Dan and Emilly provided our guests with a fun filled and educational trip as we encountered some of the wildlife found here on the west coast. A group of L Pod Orca were soon spotted just off San Juan Island. These are the Resident Orca, salmon eaters. They were milling about in small groups, working the water for salmon. What a great trip, once again, full of westcoast wildlife for our local & international guests.
Most of the images on the blog are shot with a 400 mm & 600 mm telephoto lenses. Because of our restrictions around wildlife (100+ meters), we use powerful lenses to better share orca activity that passengers see on their trips. Keep in mind this also heavily compresses space between objects. We also crop images for best blog viewing.
