The 12:15 Ocean Magic Marine Wildlife Adventure was set against calm seas and clear skies. Our Skipper Scotty headed us south to a report of Killer Whales and Humpback Whales. It was not long before we were on scene with a large group of Transient Orca. This was the T185’s and the T30’s. We watched as they rose from the depths to breath and slip back down again, they were amazing. They were traveling, headed south east, taking four to five breaths then down for the deep dive. Our crew of First Mate Casey and Naturalist Lindsay passed along a wealth of information on the diverse eco system. Capt. Scotty then took us north west to view two Humpback Whales. These gentle giants would show tail on each deep dive, water drops were glistening in the sun as it dripped off their large tails as dove deep. We then took a tour of Race Rocks Ecological Reserve. Here we observed an Elephant Seal, and many Harbour Seals. This was a great Marine Wildlife Adventure with Prince Of Whales!
Most of the images on the blog are shot with a 400 mm & 600 mm telephoto lenses. Because of our restrictions around wildlife (100+ meters), we use powerful lenses to better share orca activity that passengers see on their trips. Keep in mind this also heavily compresses space between objects. We also crop images for best blog viewing.
