Ocean Magic Marine Wildlife Adventure July 6 9am

Capt. Gord with crew members Jen and Dan on board ,headed the Ocean Magic out of the harbour and across Haro Strait were we had reports of Southern Resident Orca, the Salmon eating whales. We found them milling off the west coast of San Juan Island. We identified, J 26, affectionately called ‘ Mike ‘. Other members of his family were seen foraging the calm waters, close by. Four members of L Pod were also seen. L 105 ‘Fluke ‘ and L 95, ‘Nigel’ seemed to be horsing around at times. It was a whale of a time for both the whales and our guests on board. With plenty of sunshine and ideal conditions we were able to view the incredible scenery that the west coast has to offer. A few Harbour Seals added some extra wildlife views on our return to the harbour.

Most of the images on the blog are shot with a 400 mm & 600 mm telephoto lenses. Because of our restrictions around wildlife (100+ meters), we use powerful lenses to better share orca activity that passengers see on their trips. Keep in mind this also heavily compresses space between objects. We also crop images for best blog viewing.
