Ocean Magic Marine Wildlife Adventure June 9 12:15pm

It certainly was an afternoon to be on the water. The sun was out and the so was the wildlife. As we left the harbour we observed many forms of marine craft plying the waters. We had a report of Orca near San Juan Island East of Victoria so Capt. Anthony and his crew of Casey, Emily and Claire headed the vessel east across Haro Strait and then along the shoreline of San Juan Island. Here we found members of J Pod, salmon eating Resident Orca spread far apart and actively foraging. We observed tail lobs and breaches as the Orca made their way along the shoreline. It was truly a magical trip with glimpses of our favourite whales, the Orca. I thought that the highlight of the day would be all the wildlife, but our trip also included a marriage proposal! What a great afternoon on the water with Prince of Whales!

Most of the images on the blog are shot with a 400 mm & 600 mm telephoto lenses. Because of our restrictions around wildlife (100+ meters), we use powerful lenses to better share orca activity that passengers see on their trips. Keep in mind this also heavily compresses space between objects. We also crop images for best blog viewing.
