Ocean Magic Wildlife Adventure Aug 19 12:15

The sun shone, the seas were flat calm as the 12.15 Ocean Magic headed north up Haro Strait once out of the harbour. Capt. Scott and our crew of marine biologist Mika, naturalists, Mckyla and Brandon provided our guests with a fun filled and educational trip as we encountered some of the wildlife found here on the west coast. Members of the Sothern Resident Killer Whales were reported in Boundary Pass and we were off to see them. We found the working the water all spread out feeding as they went. We had breaching, spy hops and tail slaps, very entertaining to see. These are the apex predators of the marine environment. A few Harbour and Dall’s Porpoise, several swimming Harbour Seals, and sea birds added interest to this trip. What a great trip, once again, full of west coast wildlife for our guests.

Most of the images on the blog are shot with a 400 mm telephoto lens. Because of our restrictions around wildlife (100+ meters), we use powerful lenses to better share orca activity that passengers see on their trips. Keep in mind this also heavily compresses space between objects. We also crop images for best blog viewing.
