Our sightings of Orca continued this sunny, calm Thursday afternoon. The 3.30pm Ocean Magic headed east across Haro Strait and it was here off Discovery Island, that we came across two illusive Orca, T 21 and T 20. These two are always seen traveling together. After watching these two head south east we headed north up Haro Strait and found several members of J Pod heading south in Canadian waters. J 27, ‘ Blackberry ‘ and J 26, ‘ Mike ‘ two large males were identified. Capt Scott set us in a good position to view these wonderful creatures as they foraged and chased after salmon. Our crew , Mika, Liz and Dan shared with our guests, their knowledge of the marine life to be found in these waters. It was so peaceful to watch these charismatic animals doing what they always do, to follow the fish. It was an amazing encounter once again with ‘Prince of Whales ‘.
Most of the images on the blog are shot with a 400 mm telephoto lens. Because of our restrictions around wildlife (100+ meters), we use powerful lenses to better share orca activity that passengers see on their trips. Keep in mind this also heavily compresses space between objects. We also crop images for best blog viewing.
