The sun was out and the seas calm as the Ocean Magic II slipped out from Victoria’s Inner Harbour. Our Skipper Scotty, took us out into the Strait Of Juan De Fuca. Here Scotty put us in perfect position to view a pod of Transient Orca. They were playing as they came up, spy hops, double spy hops and proposing. Very energetic and a true treat to see them as they rolled and played on a sunny afternoon. Our trip then took us across to San Juan Island here we caught up with resident killer whales from J and K pods as they worked the water for their diet of salmon. This was a great trip, we had both Transient Killer Whales and Resident Killer Whales! Yet another beautiful adventure with Prince of Whales!
Most of the images on the blog are shot with a 400 mm telephoto lens. Because of our restrictions around wildlife (100+ meters), we use powerful lenses to better share orca activity that passengers see on their trips. Keep in mind this also heavily compresses space between objects. We also crop images for best blog viewing.
