It certainly was a day to be on the water. The sun was out and the conditions calm. The little bit of Fog soon disapated and the we found Orca! Capt Dave and his crew Casey and Emily had taken us across Haro Strait to San Juan Island. Members of J Pod, salmon eating Resident Orca were heading our way past Eagle Point. It was along this shoreline that we saw members of J Pod. Most of the whales of J Pod were spread far apart and actively foraging. It was truly a magical trip with glimpses of our favourite whales, the Orca.
Most of the images on the blog are shot with a 400 mm & 600 mm telephoto lenses. Because of our restrictions around wildlife (100+ meters), we use powerful lenses to better share orca activity that passengers see on their trips. Keep in mind this also heavily compresses space between objects. We also crop images for best blog viewing.
