Ocean Magic II Marine Wildlife Adventure Sept 8

September 14, 2012

With clear skies, plenty of sunshine and some calm water, it is great to take a trip to view the incredible scenery and wildlife to be found on the westcoast. Capt Gord, naturalists Casey and Jenn headed the Ocean Magic out of Victoria and west to connect with the lone Humpback whale spotted by our skipper. She was found lazily floating around at times creating big bushy ‘blows’, exhalations, as she came up from several deep dives. She did manage to thrill those on board with two tail/fluke raises. Always wonderful to see. Harbour Porpoise were also seen on our way to Race Rocks Ecological Reserve to view Steller and California Sea Lions, and Harbour Seals lounging on rocks.. It was truly a beautiful afternoon trip with plenty of wildlife to see and majestic Mt. Baker looming on the horizon. A trip with Prince of Whales is a must these days, so head on down and take a ride on the big Ocean Magic vessel or a bright yellow zodiac.!

Most of the images on the blog are shot with a 400 mm & 600 mm telephoto lenses. Because of our restrictions around wildlife (100+ meters), we use powerful lenses to better share orca activity that passengers see on their trips. Keep in mind this also heavily compresses space between objects. We also crop images for best blog viewing.
