Ocean Magic Marine Wildlife Adventure Aug 4 9am &12:15

August 8, 2012

Our Skipper Gord slipped the Ocean Magic from its berth in Victoria’s Inner Harbour and took us out into the wonderful summer day on the water. Crew members, Casey and Jenn and Claire discussed with our guests the variety of wildlife that could be seen on any of ‘Prince of Whales ‘ adventures. Today we headed south west in search of Humpback Whales that had been in our water the previous day. We checked out the wildlife at Race Rocks Ecological Reserve. Several species of bird were seen as well as Elephant Seals, California Sea Lions and Stellar Sea Lions were lounging on rocks. Harbour Seals were also seen at this location. After our visit to this most southerly point of Vancouver Island, we headed further south and found some Humpback Whales. These gentle giants rose up for air and showed their massive flukes on each deep dive. With ideal conditions we headed back to the harbour and were able to enjoy the scenery and some of the marine traffic that traverse these busy waters.

Most of the images on the blog are shot with a 400 mm & 600 mm telephoto lenses. Because of our restrictions around wildlife (100+ meters), we use powerful lenses to better share orca activity that passengers see on their trips. Keep in mind this also heavily compresses space between objects. We also crop images for best blog viewing.
