Ocean Magic Marine Wildlife Adventure July 6

July 11, 2013

The 9 and 12:15 Ocean Magic Wildlife Adventures were amazing. Our Skipper Scotty took us east, past Victoria’s picturesque waterfront, across Haro Strait to San Juan Island. Here he put us in excellent position to view Resident Killer Whales. These were some of the Orca from L-Pod, fish eating Orca. We observed L-22 Spirit (female), L-79 Skana (male) and L-89 Solstice (male). The three were milling around, feeding, resting, then being active with some breaching and spy hops. Our First Mate Casey and crew of Jen and Claire passed along a wealth of information and these awesome marine mammals. We then took in the sights of a few Minke Whales on our ride back into Victoria’s beautiful inner harbour. Yet another great trip with Prince Of Whales.

Most of the images on the blog are shot with a 400 mm & 600 mm telephoto lenses. Because of our restrictions around wildlife (100+ meters), we use powerful lenses to better share orca activity that passengers see on their trips. Keep in mind this also heavily compresses space between objects. We also crop images for best blog viewing.
