Ocean Magic Wildlife Adventure Aug 6 12:15

August 11, 2011

The glorious August weather continues as the Ocean Magic slipped her moorings and headed out of the harbour and turned east to head north to encounter the whales. Capt Gord in the wheelhouse and crew members Naturalist Liz and, Biologist Mika gave an educational and informative discussion of the Southern Resident Orca that were swimming by for our guests on board. Members of L Pod, the largest of the SR Pods to be seen in these waters were spread across Haro Strait off Kellet Bluff , Henry Island, Washington State. It was amazing to see so many Orca heading south. Moms and their babies are always fun to watch. The scenery was spectacular and the Orca totally awesome. A stop by Trail Island on our return gave us good looks at Harbour Seals. This was yet another amazing trip with Prince of Whales.

Most of the images on the blog are shot with a 400 mm telephoto lens. Because of our restrictions around wildlife (100+ meters), we use powerful lenses to better share orca activity that passengers see on their trips. Keep in mind this also heavily compresses space between objects. We also crop images for best blog viewing.
