The magic continued with sunny skies and calm water for our late afternoon trip this Monday July 18th. Best of all, the whales were out there still and heading north past Turn Point, across Boundary Pass and slowly past the shoreline of Pender Island. The 3.30pm Ocean Magic II vessel with Capt Scott in the wheelhouse and Naturalists, Liz and Dan on board, shared with our guests an in-depth discussion of the marine wildlife to be found in these nutrient rich waters. We watched many members of J Pod swim slowly in a resting formation past the sandstone bluffs. It was simply magical to see these wonderful mammals exhale with bushy blows rising above them, all in unison. Just a fantastic trip once again with Prince of Whales in summer sunshine.
Most of the images on the blog are shot with a 400 mm telephoto lens. Because of our restrictions around wildlife (100+ meters), we use powerful lenses to better share orca activity that passengers see on their trips. Keep in mind this also heavily compresses space between objects. We also crop images for best blog viewing.
