Ocean Magic Wildlife Adventure Sept 24 12:15

September 26, 2011

The Ocean Magic II set out from Victoria’s Inner Harbour and out into Strait of Juan De Fuca. Our skipper Gord, took us west past Race Rocks and on to Beecher Bay. Here we caught up to a pair of Transient Killer Whales, T31 and T49c. Gord put us in perfect position to view these apex predators of the worlds oceans. We then took a short run to find a group of Humpback Whales. We watched as these gentle giants swam past, such a sight. Then, we headed further west to encounter all three pods of the Southern Resident Orcas. We had a Super Pod, all three pods heading south towards Race Rocks. We saw breeching, spy hops, tail slaps and pec slaps. Just amazing, our passengers were thrilled. We then took a tour of Race Rocks Ecological Reserve, here we took in the sights of Stellar Sea Lions, California Sea Lions and Harbour Seals Just an amazing adventure with Prince of Whales!

Most of the images on the blog are shot with a 400 mm telephoto lens. Because of our restrictions around wildlife (100+ meters), we use powerful lenses to better share orca activity that passengers see on their trips. Keep in mind this also heavily compresses space between objects. We also crop images for best blog viewing.
