Capt. Scott slipped the Ocean Magic II from its berth in Victoria’s Inner Harbour and headed us west. Our crew of Mika, Marine Biologist, with Liz and Dan, Naturalists, were there to answer all our guests questions and fill them with their vast marine knowledge of our amazing waters. It was not long before we spotted out first Humpback Whale. This one was rather elusive, coming up for a breath or two then diving deep for a long dive of 7 minuets or more. We then headed further west and found a group of Humpbacks playing on the surface. Showing tail and arching their backs high into the air, they put on an amazing show. We then toured Race Rocks Ecological reserve and took in the sights of Stellar Sea Lions, California Sea Lions and Harbour Seals. Just another wonderful Wildlife Adventure with Prince of Whales!
Most of the images on the blog are shot with a 400 mm telephoto lens. Because of our restrictions around wildlife (100+ meters), we use powerful lenses to better share orca activity that passengers see on their trips. Keep in mind this also heavily compresses space between objects. We also crop images for best blog viewing.
