Ocean Magic Wildlife Adventure Sept 3 12:15

September 6, 2011

It was another fantastic afternoon of wildlife seeking, here on the west coast. Capt. Scott with Marine Biologist Mika and Naturalist’s Liz and Dan took the Ocean Magic 2 vessel out of the harbour under sunny skies. We headed up Haro Strait to Boundary Pass where Orca had been sighted. These are the fish eating Southern Resident Killer Whales, preferring Chinook/King salmon. These were members of J and L pods. Many of the whales were foraging with Mothers and their youngsters were close inshore. We watched these magnificent Orca spy-hop, breach and tail-lob. What an great with Prince of Whales once again!

Most of the images on the blog are shot with a 400 mm telephoto lens. Because of our restrictions around wildlife (100+ meters), we use powerful lenses to better share orca activity that passengers see on their trips. Keep in mind this also heavily compresses space between objects. We also crop images for best blog viewing.
