The skies were clear as Capt. Scott slipped the Ocean Magic II from its berth in Victoria’s Inner Harbour. With the crew of Marine Biologist Mika and Naturalist Dan we took out passengers west to Race Rocks Ecological Reserve. Here we watched Stellar Sealions, California Sealions and Harbour Seals. We headed further west and spotted a Minke Whale and watched a few surfacing’s. We then headed south east of Race Rocks to a report of a Humpback Whale. We watched this gentle giant working the waters, gently rising for air and then showing its tail on deep dives. Yet another wonderful adventure with Prince of Whales!
Most of the images on the blog are shot with a 400 mm telephoto lens. Because of our restrictions around wildlife (100+ meters), we use powerful lenses to better share orca activity that passengers see on their trips. Keep in mind this also heavily compresses space between objects. We also crop images for best blog viewing.
