The 12:15 Ocean Magic II headed east to reports of Killer Whales in Rosario Strait. Once on scene our Skipper Scotty put us in excellent position to view these great whales. We watched them as they made their way down the Strait. They were tight to the shoreline, and were in traveling mode, in several small groups. They rose for air in the calm water, sending their breath high in the air. Our crew filled out guests with information on whale behavior and answered all the questions. It was a beautiful afternoon on the water with Prince of Whales!
Most of the images on the blog are shot with a 400 mm telephoto lens. Because of our restrictions around wildlife (100+ meters), we use powerful lenses to better share orca activity that passengers see on their trips. Keep in mind this also heavily compresses space between objects. We also crop images for best blog viewing.
