The 9:00 and 12:15 Ocean Magic Wildlife Adventures were amazing. Our Skipper Jeff took us east, past Victoria’s picturesque waterfront, up Haro Strait to Mayne Island. Here he put us in excellent position to view Resident Killer Whales. These were some of the Orca from J-Pod and K-pod, fish eating Orca. We observed them as they were traveling north along the shore line, then being active with some breaching and spy hops. Our First Mate Mika and crew of Jen and Lindsay passed along a wealth of information and these awesome marine mammals. The 12:15 Ocean Magic II took us east again, this time to Turn Point. Here our Skipper Jeff put us in perfect position to view Transient Orca. These Apex Marine Predators worked the waters heading north. There was breaching, spy-hops, tail slaps. Yet another great trip with Prince Of Whales!
Most of the images on the blog are shot with a 400 mm & 600 mm telephoto lenses. Because of our restrictions around wildlife (100+ meters), we use powerful lenses to better share orca activity that passengers see on their trips. Keep in mind this also heavily compresses space between objects. We also crop images for best blog viewing.
