It was a gorgeous sunny day and Capt. David headed the 9am Ocean Magic II vessel with crew members, Jen and Dan, out of the harbour and toward the east. A report of Southern Resident Orca off San Juan Island had the Ocean Magic heading east to observe these amazing animals traveling slowly, northward. They were members of J Pod, we identified J 26 “Mike” as made his way along the shoreline. Our time with these incredible, fish eating Orca provided a lasting impression for our guests as did the picturesque scenery of the west coast. It was another wonderful adventure with Prince of Whales.
Most of the images on the blog are shot with a 400 mm & 600 mm telephoto lenses. Because of our restrictions around wildlife (100+ meters), we use powerful lenses to better share orca activity that passengers see on their trips. Keep in mind this also heavily compresses space between objects. We also crop images for best blog viewing.
