The Ocean Magic Marine Wildlife Adventure today was amazing. Our skipper, Gord, took the Ocean Magic south of Race Rocks to encounter a Super Pod of Souther Resident Killer Whales. All three pods were milling around. It was amazing to see so many whales in such a small area. There was Breaching, Spy Hops, Tail Lobs, Pec Slaps and tail slaps. The skies were clear and we had calm seas as these magnificent orca rose up for air, they had all the passengers smiling after this great encounter. We then toured Race Rocks Ecological Reserve and took in the sights of California Sealions, Stellar Sealions, Elaphant Seals and Harbour Seals. Yet another great marine wildlife adventure with Prince Of Whales!
Most of the images on the blog are shot with a 400 mm & 600 mm telephoto lenses. Because of our restrictions around wildlife (100+ meters), we use powerful lenses to better share orca activity that passengers see on their trips. Keep in mind this also heavily compresses space between objects. We also crop images for best blog viewing.
