It certainly was an morning to be on the water. The sun was out and the conditions relatively calm. We observed many forms of marine craft plying the waters. We had a report of Orca way east of Victoria so Capt Gord and his crew Mika and Mckyla headed the vessel east and across Haro Strait to San Juan Island. Members of J Pod, K pod and L pod salmon eating Resident Orca were heading north past Lime Kiln Light House on San Juan Island. It was along this shoreline that we saw these mighty Orca spread far apart and actively foraging. It was truly a magical trip with glimpses of our favourite whales and all the scenery, yet another perfect adventure with Prince of Whales!
Most of the images on the blog are shot with a 400 mm telephoto lens. Because of our restrictions around wildlife (100+ meters), we use powerful lenses to better share orca activity that passengers see on their trips. Keep in mind this also heavily compresses space between objects. We also crop images for best blog viewing.
