The 12:15 Ocean Magic Wildlife Adventure was awesome. Capt. Jeff and his crew of naturalists Casey, Jen and Lindsay took the Ocean Magic out into the flat calm waters off Victoria and headed us east. We encountered a small group of Harbour Porpoise, they were milling around, and gave us a nice show. We then carried on to San Juan Island. Here Capt. Jeff put us in perfect position to view L & J pod as they worked their way south, spread out and feeding. We watched as they spy hopped, breached and porpoised in the sunshine. Our crew of naturalists passed along a wealth of information on this complex marine ecosystem. On our way back along the waterfront, we stopped off to check out some Harbour Seals. This was yet another great day on the water with Prince of Whales!
Most of the images on the blog are shot with a 400 mm & 600 mm telephoto lenses. Because of our restrictions around wildlife (100+ meters), we use powerful lenses to better share orca activity that passengers see on their trips. Keep in mind this also heavily compresses space between objects. We also crop images for best blog viewing.
