It certainly was an afternoon to be on the water. The sun was out and the conditions relatively calm. We headed west to Race Rocks Ecological Reserve and observed Stellar Sealions, California Sealions and Harbour Seals. We then headed to False Bay on San Juan Island. Capt Scott put us in great position to view members of L Pod, salmon eating Resident Orca. Most of the whales of L Pod were spread far apart and actively foraging. It was truly a magical trip with glimpses of our favourite whales, the Orca.
Most of the images on the blog are shot with a 400 mm telephoto lens. Because of our restrictions around wildlife (100+ meters), we use powerful lenses to better share orca activity that passengers see on their trips. Keep in mind this also heavily compresses space between objects. We also crop images for best blog viewing.
