It certainly was a great afternoon for an adventure. The sun was out and the winds light as our Skipper Scott slipped the Ocean Magic II from Victoria’s inner harbour. He headed us west to the Strait Of Juan De Fuca and up to Sooke. Along the way we found a few Dall’s Porpoise, they rode our bow wake and played for us. Zipping left and right as they went. We carried along further into the strait and here far offshore we found Humpback Whales. We watched this Mother and Calf with a Male Escort show their huge tails as they would take a deep dive into the depths below. On our way back to Victoria we stopped off at Race Rocks Ecological Reserve. Here the waters were full of life, Stellar Sea Lions, California Sea Lions, Harbour Seals and a variety of sea birds. Our guests were treated to yet another great marine wildlife adventure with Prince Of Whales!
Most of the images on the blog are shot with a 400 mm telephoto lens. Because of our restrictions around wildlife (100+ meters), we use powerful lenses to better share orca activity that passengers see on their trips. Keep in mind this also heavily compresses space between objects. We also crop images for best blog viewing.
