We are proud to announce our achievement of Biosphere Certification, a globally recognized sustainability certification conferred by Biosphere Sustainable. With this achievement, we are the first Biosphere Certified whale watching tour operator in the lower mainland, highlighting our dedication to sustainability and conservation, in alignment with our fundamental principles.

The Biosphere program is designed to promote a Sustainable Lifestyle and contribute to the realization of the United Nations 2030 Agenda’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Prince of Whales is resolutely dedicated to addressing climate change while actively investing in the growth and development of the local community.

Elspeth McGillivray, our General Manager, mentions, “Our commitment to sustainability is profound, and we proudly hold the Biosphere Certification in both Victoria and Vancouver, and currently in line to obtain our certification in Telegraph Cove.” Prince of Whales has consistently been a pioneer in sustainable tourism, exemplified by our membership in 1% for the Planet, wherein we contribute a minimum of 1% of revenue to local conservation causes. We are also actively working towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions, having set ambitious targets to achieve a 50% reduction per passenger by 2030, with a long-term goal of reaching Net Zero by 2050.

Elspeth emphasizes the significance of providing sustainable activities in Vancouver, stating, “Especially in Vancouver, the hubspot for BC’s tourism, it’s imperative to offer both our community and global travelers sustainable options. This way, travellers and locals alike can immerse themselves in the beauty of our region and take pride in being part of something meaningful.” Prince of Whales remains resolute in our commitment to a more sustainable future, playing our role in safeguarding the environment and wildlife for the benefit of future generations.
