Nestled on Vancouver Island’s northern bounds, Telegraph Cove is an intimate haven for whale watchers and conservationists. A former fishing village, today Telegraph Cove plays host to our quintessential whale watching adventure. Cut through Johnstone Strait’s currents and navigate the Broughton archipelago in search of orcas and humpback whales, and listen to our marine mammal experts bring the animals’ stories to life from the comfort of your cruiser.

Did you know? Telegraph Cove is one of the final boardwalk settlements left on Vancouver Island.

What To Bring

It gets cold out on the water (trust us!), so we recommend windbreaker jackets, sweaters, long pants, and closed-toe shoes. It’s also a good idea to bring sunglasses, sunscreen, a tight-fitting hat, a camera to capture some memorable moments and, above all, your sense of adventure!

Onboard snacks are available for purchase with CAD cash only (no credit/debit cards accepted) but please feel free to bring your own snacks if you wish.

Great day out We went on the half-day whale watching tour from Vancouver. From the start the staff (James, Amy and Camille) were friendly and efficient and generated a good atmosphere. We were lucky enough to see a few Humpback whales and a pod of Orca. They were beautiful to watch and the staff gave really interesting information as you watched the animals. The boat was well controlled by Ian and Sandy and we had a good amount of time watching the whales. The departure point is on Granville Island - I’d recommend incorporating a walk around the public market into your day as the food was delicious and the crafts interesting. We picked up some sandwiches to take on the tour with us.

Whales Galore! My daughter and I enjoyed every minute of it. Wilma’s fun attitude and extreme knowledge of the local flora and fauna was so appreciated. She and Captain Ian, Olivia and Selena were very pleasant and helpful in pointing out various animals and places of interest. We saw bald eagles, harbor seals and three families of orca whales. The day was perfect

Amazing Experience Had a wonderful experience on the afternoon whale watching and Butchart Gardens tour. Our guides James and Amy were excellent. Several minke whales came within 25 meters of the boat. The gardens were incredible as well.

Perfect wildlife watching trip. We took the half day whale watching trip & couldn't have asked for a better excursion. We saw porpoise, sea lions, seals, eagles, humpback whales & orca's . An amazing trip enhanced by the very knowledgeable guides Selina & especially Olivia who was great with our kids. The trip was rounded off with a spectacular view of Mt Baker behind the stunning Vancouver skyline as we returned to port. We couldn't recommend this trip highly enough.

Dream come true experience!! Dream come true for me today to see whales with this wonderful crew ! They were so knowledgeable and kind and friendly . Lily, Jennifer and Maia , Bill and Joe as captain and mate . We saw orca whales showing a bunch of behaviours and learned about them all . Felt safe the whole time ( boat wise and covid wise ). The gentleman that greeted us and talked to us before the whole adventure even began was also awesome ! Everyone was soooo nice! Truly a great experience I will never forget !

So much fun This was my first time on a zodiac. It was way more fun than the bigger boat. We got to see humpback whales which was also a first for me. I've seen many orcas before. I would recommend this type of whale watching adventure. The boat ride was so much fun and the weather was beautiful. It was a warm day but I was glad to have the warm full body suits and hat and gloves.

AMAZING Took this tour today and it was awesome. Our guide Austin found at least 10 humpback whales. They came so close to the boat and one swam right underneath us giving us a chance to see them up close. I would definitely recommend this tour if you’re visiting Victoria. Thanks Austin for a great day.

AWESOME experience!!! Highly recommend!!! Had an absolutely wonderful afternoon. The staff are awesome - so passionate and knowledgeable and it really shows and makes for an awesome and memorable experience. The crew members - Lili, Seanie and Laura(?) are rockstars of the ocean! They truly made the experience that much better - Very friendly and informative - I learned so much on our tour! We were fortunate to see both transient and resident orcas. At one point we were surrounded by humpbacks!! Absolutely incredible!! Even the staff were excited! The vessel was comfortable and it was such as nice touch to offer complimentary teas and coffees. I have done the tour with other companies and would not hesitate to recommend Prince of Wales. It is worth every penny for a wonderful day on the water and awesome experience!

An Amazing Experience My wife and I had the good fortune to travel with the Prince of Whales on an unforgettable excursion. We saw three families of Orcas and watched them for quite some time. It was incredible.
We’d like to compliment the desk staff and the crew. Everyone was friendly, professional and well informed. I didn’t catch everyone’s names, but many thanks to Cpt Joe, Rory for sending the pictures and Shawnee (sp?) our guide who was so enthusiastic and knowledgable and all the rest of the crew who were all great.
