Experience

Nestled on Vancouver Island’s northern bounds, Telegraph Cove is an intimate haven for whale watchers and conservationists. A former fishing village, today Telegraph Cove plays host to our quintessential whale watching adventure. Cut through Johnstone Strait’s currents and navigate the Broughton archipelago in search of orcas and humpback whales, and listen to our marine mammal experts bring the animals’ stories to life from the comfort of your cruiser.

Did you know? Telegraph Cove is one of the final boardwalk settlements left on Vancouver Island.

What To Bring

It gets cold out on the water (trust us!), so we recommend windbreaker jackets, sweaters, long pants, and closed-toe shoes. It’s also a good idea to bring sunglasses, sunscreen, a tight-fitting hat, a camera to capture some memorable moments and, above all, your sense of adventure!

Onboard snacks are available for purchase with CAD cash only (no credit/debit cards accepted) but please feel free to bring your own snacks if you wish.

Great time! Really great experience. We saw some humpback whales, sea lions, seals, and bald eagles. We loved that Rory explained to us the regulations that whale watching companies implemented to make sure that animals are protected in this field. Thanks to Malcolm, Anthony, Rory, Wilma, and Hannah! We appreciated the precautions taken for health and safety with limited bookings and reminders to people to wear their masks.

Fantastic! Absolutely great time. We saw humpbacks and orcas and enjoyed it very much. Jasper was wonderful and a great source of info.
Loved the trip and would recommend to most anyone. I am not young and do have some arthritis and back issues but at least on our relatively calm day, the boat was extremely comfortable and o did not experience the jolting I have come to expect from a zodiac.
    Thanks!

Genuine West Coast Experience We set sail in style on the super comfy Salish Sea vessel. On our first stop alone we saw 6 different species of birds (not including the various gulls), and Naturalist Liz kept it super interesting with all of her Bald Eagle facts! From there we carried on further west where we encountered Transient Orca's and Resident Orca's within a few hundred meters of each other! What are the chances??? Captain Bill and First Mate Joe got reports of Humpback Whales and quickly set off in that direction, when we arrived they killed the engine so we could enjoy the sound of the Humpbacks breathing. Before we knew it we were literally surrounded by a dozen or more Humpbacks! It was incredibly magical. Thanks POW team!

Vacation The staff are outstanding. We were fortunate to see 5 humpback whales on the trip. They even stopped to view whales on the return trip which wasn’t part of the itinerary but was appreciated by all!

Half Day Wale Watching Tour from Vancouver BC Ich habe bei dem 1.

Could not do more We were booked to sail from Victoria. PoW had already helped us out by rescheduling our sailing as we had a large school group split between two locations and could not make the published departure times. When one of our buses was a no- show PoW did everything they could to delay again but eventually had to depart when we realised we would be an hour late! They then organised an alternative departure for us to fit with our return to the mainland 2 days later. Having whale watched somewhere in the region of ten times previously, this was the best trip ever with close up sightings of many whales, in particular huge humpbacks. The students loved their experience and rated it the best trip of their 12 day stay in BC.
THis was my 6th time of dealing with PoW and whilst they have always been excellent, I have to say that the professionalism and support of the front of house staff was extraordinarily good during a potentially stressful situation. The crew on board were once again fabulous and dealt with our party size (60) in a friendly and caring manner contributing to a fabulous experience for all involved. I rarely write reviews but the latest experience with PoW was one of, if not the best sightseeing experiences I have had in organising over 30 international school trips. From start to finish the staff were so accommodating and professional that PoW now have an extremely loyal customer for the future.
Thank you on behalf of the staff and students for such a great experience.

terrific sailed on 3rd oct this year into a glorious sight of massive tankers sitting in the bay and motored down to see sea lions basking on rocks before setting off to see the whales.

marvellous sightings of two Whales constantly arching and diving showing off the flukes.
a good hours viewing before leaving to see another nearer to the coast.

travelled later around Bowen island where we saw Harbour seals laving on the island.

a fantastic trip with very knowledgeable crew would not hesitate to recommend.

We saw a pod of 3 whales This was an amazing trip and experience. We booked the half day trip. Crew were friendly and attentive. Becky and Aurora were so knowledgeable, clearly subject matter experts in their field and passionate about marine conservation.
We were very fortunate to come across a pod of three killer whales. A truly unforgettable experience.
If you are able to, book this for the first part of your stay in Vancouver so that if no whales are seen you can go out again free of charge.
