Experience

Take in the world-renowned lush greens of The Butchart Gardens with our exclusive whale watching package from Victoria’s Inner Harbour. Traverse our west coast waters in search of orcas and humpback whales en route to The Butchart Gardens, where you’ll explore 55 acres of colourful blooms before hopping on your private bus back to Victoria. Plus, every Saturday, we invite you to stay until dusk falls and watch fireworks illuminate the night sky.

Did you know? The Butchart Gardens took root in a former limestone quarry over 100 years ago.

What To Bring

It gets cold out on the water (trust us!), so we recommend windbreaker jackets, sweaters, long pants, and closed-toe shoes. It’s also a good idea to bring sunglasses, sunscreen, a tight-fitting hat, a camera to capture some memorable moments and, above all, your sense of adventure!

Onboard snacks are available for purchase with CAD cash only (no credit/debit cards accepted) but please feel free to bring your own snacks if you wish.

What a beautiful day On the best weather day of our too short a trip to Vancouver we took the ultimate whale watching and trip to Victoria and had a fabulous time. We were lucky enough to see several whales just bobbing along together. Stopped in Victoria for a lovely lunch before popping of to Butchart Gardens which was beautiful and caught the boat back . Tired but happy great crew thank you xx

Knowledgeable Naturalist We went out of Vancouver on a half day trip, poking into Howe Sound, the Strait of Georgia and the North Arm of the Fraser River. We tracked two orcas for a while, saw a breaching humpback whale mother and her calf, and some resting harbor seals. I wasn’t expecting to see much given how close we had to remain to the city on only a 3-5 hour trip, so was happy with what we did encounter. Plus being out on the water is a great way to experience another side of a new place. Our onboard naturalist Wilma was very knowledgeable and eager to share everything she knows with us. The captain Aaron was fully engaged with us as well, keeping us updated on our course, which he adjusted quickly with changing information coming in over his radio from other boats.

An enthusiastic guide Joe and Lili were great. They were knowledgeable and tried really hard to find us whales. Alas we had no luck.... however; the tour group gives a guarantee so we have a credit to come back! The boat was nice and gloves, toques and blankets were provided to keep warm.

Highly recommend this tour group and our guides!

Amazing whale watching experience at Telegraph Cove We drove up all the way to telegraph cove to go whale watching with Prince of Whales, and it became the highlight of our trip to the Island. Not only, because we were lucky, to see so much of the beautiful wildlife (we saw several Humpbacks, porpoises, bald eagles, sea lions, minke whales and Orcas!), but also because the whole crew did an amazing job, explaining so much about the animals and the environment. We expected to go out on a 3 hour trip, but the amazing crew (Roman,Rebecca,Sharon,Vanessa,Kiron) made it a 5 hour tour instead. Special thanks to Rebecca, who is not only a wildlife expert, but also a great photographer (I asked her, if she could send me some pictures of the orcas we saw at that day). You can see her pictures below.

So if you are considering doing a whale watching tour on the Island. This is your place to go!

Fantastic Trip! I went on a Whale Watching Tour on the Ocean Magic on July 15 with Captain Roman and then Rebecca was our naturalist. Roman did a great job getting us close to the whales and lined up nicely to get good photos out of the way of other boats while staying a safe distance away While traveling between different areas, and whenever we saw wildlife, Rebecca was extremely informative and helpful giving facts, identifying the different whales, and answering all questions! She is clearly very knowledgeable and passionate about her job and the whales and it really showed. I had never seen whales before going out with Prince of Whales and it was a great first experience; I would highly recommend to others!

Zodiac Trip We had a great 3+ hours on the Prince of Whales zodiac tour in the early afternoon. The skipper was brilliant - friendly, knowledgeable & created a nice atmosphere. We were lucky enough to see transient orcas, residents and humpbacks - absolutely incredible and at times we didn’t know where to look as they were everywhere around us! Would recommend, and would happily use again.

FAQS

Do tours run in all types of weather?

Tours operate rain or shine! Safety is our priority and, in extreme weather conditions or high winds, adventures may be cancelled at the discretion of our qualified crew. We will be in touch should this be the case.

Will we really see whales?

Yes! There is a high chance of seeing orcas, humpbacks, and other types of whale on your tour. Our year-round whale sighting success rate is ~95% (averaged across all of our adventures) with chances being even higher during summer months.

What happens if we don’t see a whale?

This adventure is covered by our year-round Year-Round Whale Sighting Guarantee. In the unlikely case, we do not see whales on this adventure, you can join us on another whale watching tour. This guarantee is valid for a lifetime!

Are there bathrooms on the Catamarans?

Yes! The catamarans are equipped with two airline-style washrooms.

Do passengers often feel seasick?

No, our boats are custom-built for whale watching with passengers in mind. Captain and crew will also do their best to minimize the impact of the sea. However, if you are prone to seasickness, we recommend you purchase non-drowsy Gravol from a pharmacy prior to your adventure with us.

Are there snacks or beverages on board?

Complementary tea, coffee & hot chocolate will be available on board. Light snacks (chips, cookies, chocolate bars) can be purchased with CAD cash. You can also bring your own snacks.

Do I need to make a reservation?

Reservations are definitely recommended. Adventures often sell out and we don’t want you to be disappointed.
