Do tours run in all types of weather?

Tours operate rain or shine! Safety is our priority and, in extreme weather conditions or high winds, adventures may be cancelled at the discretion of our qualified crew. We will be in touch should this be the case.

Will we really see whales?

Yes! There is a high chance of seeing orcas, humpbacks, and other types of whale on your tour. Our year-round whale sighting success rate is ~95% (averaged across all of our adventures) with chances being even higher during summer months.

What happens if we don’t see a whale?

This adventure is covered by our year-round Year-Round Whale Sighting Guarantee. In the unlikely case, we do not see whales on this adventure, you can join us on another whale watching tour. This guarantee is valid for a lifetime!

When is the best time of day for watching whales?

There really is no better time of day for whale sightings, as the whales do not run on a schedule as we do! The whales are active throughout the day and their behaviour changes as groups encounter each other. If you are looking for the best scenic light for photography choose morning departure.

Are there bathrooms on the Zodiacs?

No, the RHIBs are open-air boats, and therefore do not have washrooms on board. We recommend that you use the public washrooms (located next to our office) before your departure.

Do passengers often feel seasick?

No, our boats are custom-built for whale watching with passengers in mind. Captain and crew will also do their best to minimize the impact of the sea. However, if you are prone to seasickness, we recommend you purchase non-drowsy Gravol from a pharmacy prior to your adventure with us.

Are there snacks or beverages available on board the Catamarans?

Yes! Complimentary tea, coffee & hot chocolate will be available on board. Light snacks (chips, cookies and chocolate bars) can be purchased with CAD cash. You can also bring your own snacks.

Can I bring a camera on a Zodiac?

Yes! Bring your camera and/or video camera to capture the experience. We also recommend that you bring a plastic bag or other waterproof case to keep your camera safe and dry during transit. The boat will come to a complete stop for photo opportunities.

Are Zodiac adventures safe?

Yes, all of our captains and boats are certified by Transport Canada. Zodiacs move fast but are very stable. There will be no 360-degree turns on this tour. These adventures are designed for fast sightseeing and not a thrill park ride.

Do I need to make a reservation?

Reservations are definitely recommended. Adventures often sell out and we don’t want you to be disappointed.

One of the best experience of my life! Do this. You will it regret it. This really was awesome and I can’t recommend enough. We saw so much life - whales, orcas, otters, seals, sea lines and eagles. Mark was incredibly knowledgable, not just about where to find them but about their lives, their history and their behaviour. Just a couple of hours of hearing him talk about the sea life and looking at his photos would be worth the money alone! We got so close (but not too close!) to them and we’re able to take some great photos, but also left understanding much more about them and the threats to them (and the recovery stories too!)

Thrilling Awesome trip and guide. A must for everyone visiting the coast! Saw a pod of ball porpoises that were swimming all around our boat, transient orca whales and sea lions

Amazing!! This trip was an affordable and fun way to do two great activities in Victoria. I highly recommend it. The staff were courteous and knowledgeable. They knew the different whales and took the time to tell us about each kind, each pod, and distinguishing trait. We were dropped off at the back of the gardens and given immediate access. The bus home was quick and easy and no extra cost. A great deal

Half day whale watching from Victoria We had a wonderful trip with Prince of Whales 18 years after going on our first trip with them! All aspects of the organsisation were fantastic and straight forward from checking in to getting kitted out and the actual trip itself. Our guide, Valerie was very knowledgeable on all aspects of the wildlife and environment not just the many hump back whales we saw. The kids, aged 14 & 16 loved going full speed and hitting the waves. I would consider this trip good value for money and would recommend it.

half Day whale watching Victoria Excellent company! The boat was comfortable and easy to move around. There was space to sit inside (warm) and the windows were large making it easy to see the whales easily. We really appreciate the blankets to sit outside.

The best part were the staff who were very knowledgeable and personable. On the day we went, Lilly hosted most of the talks we listened to and they were so informative. We learned a lot.

We saw a family of whales, a group of porpoise and lots of sea lions.

    Highly recommend this company !

Best experience in Vancouver - Victoria James and Mar were outstanding crew members who were very enthusiastic and positive. They explained every single detail during the trip about whales, orcs, etc. Don’t hesitate to book with Prince of Whales, it is a must in Vancouver.

Loved this tour!!! Loved this tour. Wish I could have seen an Orca but realized my timing was off. We saw a number of Humpbacks including a mother and her calf. The staff was amazing. They explained everything in great detail and I felt like they were just as excited as I was each time a whale came out of the water. We hit gold with the place where the Humpbacks were feeding! I am definitely going to do another tour next year when Orcas are around. Thank you to the staff. You were awesome!!

Full day whale watching from Vancouver to Victoria The whole trip was very nicely organised, the boat is big and comfortable and the staff is very knowledgable and nice.

We saw humback whales on our way to Victoria, lots of seals and different birds, but unfortunately no orcas. However, we were lucky enough to have the sight of them (a family of 3-5 orcas) on our way back from Vancouver to Victoria - the captain stayed long enough for us to see them and enjoy their playfullness.

The Butchart gardens are also very nice and quite big - you should take the 2:00 p.m. shuttle from Victoria the latest if you want to at least go through all the gardens and make it to the return boat.

I only wish we had more time in Victoria (you arrive at app. noon, maybe a bit sooner, and if you take the 2 p.m. shuttle to the gardens, you have only couple of hours in the city), but that's not the problem of the company. I believe you can stay for the night and return the next day on the same return boat to Vancouver, but we just didn't have enough time to do so.

All in all, great experience! :)

Awesome time watching Orcas and Humpbacks with a fantastic crew! We had an awesome afternoon watching orcas, seals, sea lions, a bald eagle, and checking out a bird sanctuary. After a brief stop at the Butchart Gardens to pick up more passengers we headed toward Vancouver where we stumbled upon three humpback whales as well! All of the crew were super nice from Captain Anthony to First Mate Sandy and the two naturalists Amy and Stu. Amy and Stu came around to tell us about the pod of Orcas we saw (T109A!) and answer any questions we had and were very knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend for a great experience! Hope y'all enjoy some donuts one your whale tours!
