FAQS

Do tours run in all types of weather?

Tours operate rain or shine! Safety is our priority and, in extreme weather conditions or high winds, adventures may be cancelled at the discretion of our qualified crew. We will be in touch should this be the case.

Will we really see whales?

Yes! There is a high chance of seeing orcas, humpbacks, and other types of whale on your tour. Our year-round whale sighting success rate is ~95% (averaged across all of our adventures) with chances being even higher during summer months.

What happens if we don’t see a whale?

This adventure is covered by our year-round Whale Sighting Guarantee. In the unlikely case, we do not see whales on this adventure, you can join us on another whale watching tour. This guarantee is valid for a lifetime!

When is the best time of day for watching whales?

There really is no better time of day for whale sightings, as the whales do not run on a schedule as we do! The whales are active throughout the day and their behaviour changes as groups encounter each other. If you are looking for the best scenic light for photography choose morning departure.

Are there bathrooms on the Zodiacs?

No, the RHIBs are open-air boats, and therefore do not have washrooms on board. We recommend that you use the public washrooms (located next to our office) before your departure.

Do passengers often feel seasick?

No, our boats are custom-built for whale watching with passengers in mind. Captain and crew will also do their best to minimize the impact of the sea. However, if you are prone to seasickness, we recommend you purchase non-drowsy Gravol from a pharmacy prior to your adventure with us.

Are there snacks or beverages available on board the Catamarans?

Yes! Complimentary tea, coffee & hot chocolate will be available on board. Light snacks (chips, cookies and chocolate bars) can be purchased with CAD cash. You can also bring your own snacks.
Please not because of COVID light snacks will not be available.

Can I bring a camera on a Zodiac?

Yes! Bring your camera and/or video camera to capture the experience. We also recommend that you bring a plastic bag or other waterproof case to keep your camera safe and dry during transit. The boat will come to a complete stop for photo opportunities.

Are Zodiac adventures safe?

Yes, all of our captains and boats are certified by Transport Canada. Zodiacs move fast but are very stable. There will be no 360-degree turns on this tour. These adventures are designed for fast sightseeing and not a thrill park ride.

Do I need to make a reservation?

Reservations are definitely recommended. Adventures often sell out and we don’t want you to be disappointed.

Still inspired I came solo a few months back but I promised myself I would write a review because I had a Fabulous Whale Watching Experience.
I was traveling solo and the staff who are very knowledgable we’re also very friendly and made sure everyone was feeling welcomed.
It really inspired me how much the staff care about the wild life. We saw a mom orca and baby also sea lions and seals!
I appreciated that the staff offered me blankets as it was very cold.

I would recommend this experience for sure!
Thank you Camille, James and Amy and keep up the good work!

Amazing adventure Just stunning! Such a lovely experience to top of our Vancouver trip. We saw several Humpbacks, Porpoises, Sea lions, harbour seals and plenty of birds. The staff were fabulous and were also genuinely excited to see the Whales too. They were so informative and kept the trip interesting even on the long waits while the whales went for a big dive. The boat was clean and comfortable with large viewing platform so everyone could see and inside were large viewing windows. Overall a great trip and one I’ll remember for a long time.

Amazing experience for us first-timers I've always wanted to go whale watching so it was a must when we arrived in Victoria. I didn't know how to choose a reputable company so I did the usual: compared prices, reviews, locations and then just picked one. I have to say the location of being from the info centre and the fall "flash sales" were the initial reasons to choose this company, but then I thought it was interesting that they would guarantee seeing whales or your money back. I thought even if we didn't see whales we'd get a fun boat ride and possibly another offer to try again. I wasn't worried either way. So off we went. The purchasing online was easy and the information delivery was clear. Check in was friendly and smooth. I was expecting to be cold, and it was a bit our on the water, but overall I was very comfortable even though the sun was only out for about an hour. It was overcast the rest of the day, but that did not take anything away from the experience. From the introductions of the crew, the safety talk at the start to concierge service and staff on hands to connastntly interact and provide information and answers, I felt taken care of the entire time. We saw tons of animals from whales to seals to a single resident otter. The animals were of course the highlight, but the surprising part was the sheer information and education put forth. You can tell these guys have taken the time to really hone this product from the heart. I can't compare as I've never been on another tour like this, but I recommend this company with complete confidence. Well done crew! Special thanks to Shawnee, Bill and Jo, and oh man I wish I could remember the other crew members names as they were all great!

Excellent trip with very knowledgeable guides We had a great morning on the boat, and saw humpback whales, bald eagles, seals and sea lions. The knowledge and information that the guides had was great.
The boat was well equipped with toilets and refreshments.
Layering up with clothing is recommended as the wind on the ocean can be a bit chilly.

Orcas and Humpbacks - Amazing!!! Fantastic afternoon....we had the most wonderful sightings of a pod of orcas and also of humpback whales leaping out of the water (mother and baby we think). The captain ensured that our boat was in a good position so that we could get photos, but without hassling the whales at all. Chloe looked after us well and gave us lots of information and stories. The boat ride was fun but super safe. Just remember to wear layers of clothing, if you like to sit outside and you feel the cold!!

Half day whale watching This tour was very exciting! The hosts were super knowledgeable and we saw humpbacks, orcas, and Californian sea lions! I was worried that whale watching would be boring but that was not the case for this trip. There was lots of activity and the staff was very engaging. Don't let the weather deter you either. Our trip was in the rain and we still managed to get great pictures. Would definitely go again with Prince of whales.
