FAQS

Do tours run in all types of weather?

Tours operate rain or shine! Safety is our priority and, in extreme weather conditions or high winds, adventures may be cancelled at the discretion of our qualified crew. We will be in touch should this be the case.

Will we really see whales?

Yes! There is a high chance of seeing orcas, humpbacks, and other types of whale on your tour. Our year-round whale sighting success rate is ~95% (averaged across all of our adventures) with chances being even higher during summer months.

What happens if we don’t see a whale?

This adventure is covered by our year-round Whale Sighting Guarantee. In the unlikely case, we do not see whales on this adventure, you can join us on another whale watching tour. This guarantee is valid for a lifetime!

When is the best time of day for watching whales?

There really is no better time of day for whale sightings, as the whales do not run on a schedule as we do! The whales are active throughout the day and their behaviour changes as groups encounter each other. If you are looking for the best scenic light for photography choose morning departure.

Are there bathrooms on the Zodiacs?

No, the RHIBs are open-air boats, and therefore do not have washrooms on board. We recommend that you use the public washrooms (located next to our office) before your departure.

Do passengers often feel seasick?

No, our boats are custom-built for whale watching with passengers in mind. Captain and crew will also do their best to minimize the impact of the sea. However, if you are prone to seasickness, we recommend you purchase non-drowsy Gravol from a pharmacy prior to your adventure with us.

Are there snacks or beverages available on board the Catamarans?

Yes! Complimentary tea, coffee & hot chocolate will be available on board. Light snacks (chips, cookies and chocolate bars) can be purchased with CAD cash. You can also bring your own snacks.

Can I bring a camera on a Zodiac?

Yes! Bring your camera and/or video camera to capture the experience. We also recommend that you bring a plastic bag or other waterproof case to keep your camera safe and dry during transit. The boat will come to a complete stop for photo opportunities.

Are Zodiac adventures safe?

Yes, all of our captains and boats are certified by Transport Canada. Zodiacs move fast but are very stable. There will be no 360-degree turns on this tour. These adventures are designed for fast sightseeing and not a thrill park ride.

Do I need to make a reservation?

Reservations are definitely recommended. Adventures often sell out and we don’t want you to be disappointed.

Amazing zodiac tour with Scotty! I can’t even believe how amazing our experience was today. About 10 minutes in and we saw a humpback whale with a calf. We saw a total of 7 humpbacks which Scotty was able to identify and give us great information about. Scotty obviously has a great passion for his job and answered every question with great detail and enthusiasm. On the way back to telegraph cove he also took us to see a group of Stella sea lions and we were also lucky enough to see some dalls porpoise too! Thanks so much Prince of Whales, definitely a tour I won’t forget!

Ultimate Day Tour to Victoria We, a party of three adults from the UK, travelled on the Ultimate Day Tour to Victoria on 3rd September. Our crew of Anthony, Sandy, James and Amy were absolutely fantastic and so knowledgeable about the wildlife and local area! We were lucky to enough to see four humpback whales, five orcas, a bald eagle and harbour seals. This is a must do trip if you are in Vancouver! Victoria is a lovely place to visit and if we were to do it again we would stay a night there and the Butchart Gardens are also beautiful! If we could give this trip six stars we would - the crew, scenery and wildlife were all amazing!

Veramente incredibile. Non lo dimenticherò mai!!!! Super consigliato

Awsome Whale Watching Adventure Russ took us out on the zodiac and went right to the hot spot where they had been sighting them the past few days. Little did we know that we stopped almost on top of two whales. They surfaced about twenty five feet from our boat and then went right under the front of the boat. It was pretty intense there for several minutes but it turned out to be a great trip. Russ was very knowledgeable about the area and the whales and shared some of his other experiences with us. I highly recommend this tour to anyone that wants to see whales.

Don’t miss this great tour! This experience was one of the highlights of our trip to Vancouver. We saw many humpback whales. The captain and first mate were skilled at taking us to the best spots, and the naturalists taking us through the sightings were incredibly knowledgeable about whales, sea lions, and other animals in the habitat. All around, this was a fantastic experience.

10/10 Experience with Scotty leading the way Made memories to last a lifetime with Scotty taking us around the northern gulf islands in search of wildlife. We saw bald eagles, Dall's porpoises, countless orcas, and several humpbacks. We were spoiled rotten with a combination of luck and Scotty's expertise. He was extremely knowledgeable of the animals as well as the area, and you could not find someone with more passion and pure joy in their line of work than Scotty.

This experience exceeded all my expectations, and I thoroughly recommend it to anyone wishing to see some of the beautiful sea life surrounding the northern part of the island.

    Thanks again Scotty!

Amazing day with Orcas! We booked a half day tour on a very windy day (crew said white water rafting waves windy). We were a family with 2.5yearold and a 8 month baby, so got lots of concerned questions if we wanted to reschedule - the crew were very caring and put priority on our safety and wellbeing. We were leaving the same night so we went for it, turned out to be the best decision ever. Bumps on the way there, but smooth sailing the rest of the way. Got to see families of orcas in the sun and light sea breeze for over an hour with multiple appearances. The crew on board gave us lots of information on the whales, their lifestyles, and what is endangering them. Had an amazing morning onboard!

Amazing morning Had an incredible morning on the boat with the Prince of Whales crew. Becky was an amazing guide and we saw so much sea life: a humpback and calf, an orca, loads of seals, bald eagles and purple starfish. A truly amazing morning. The humpback jumped out of the water and came so close to the boat, it was amazing.
