PARTNERING UP TO EMPOWER FUTURE OCEAN HEROES
We’ve partnered with Sea Smart to bring you this free exclusive professional development workshop! By providing you with the resources and knowledge to teach your students about ocean science, we aim to build a more responsible and ecologically conscious community.
ABOUT OUR FREE WORKSHOP
This three-hour workshop focuses on acoustic disturbance and how it affects Orcas in the Salish Sea. It’s the perfect half-day learning activity for a professional development day. The format is a slideshow presentation with interactive elements including a creative design challenge to reduce the acoustic disturbance caused by ships.
Who? Elementary, Middle, and High-School Teachers
When? Monday, April 24, 2023
Where? Your school or our office ( 500-610 Main Street, Vancouver, BC V6A 2V3)
THE PROGRAM TARGETS THE FOLLOWING CONSERVATION ISSUES:
- Environmental contamination.
- Competition with fisheries and low prey availability.
- Acoustic disturbance.
Through this workshop, we hope to provide the tools for teachers to increase students’ awareness of orcas in the Salish Sea, identify the different ecotypes and the threats they are faced with. After this workshop teachers can inspire students to take action and help killer whales by reducing their individual impact and encourage students to use their emotions to drive positive change within their class, school, family, and community. Students can use creative and critical thinking to design a solution to underwater noise.
