FAQS

Do tours run in all types of weather?

Tours operate rain or shine! Safety is our priority and, in extreme weather conditions or high winds, adventures may be cancelled at the discretion of our qualified crew. We will be in touch should this be the case.

Will we really see whales?

Yes! There is a high chance of seeing orcas, humpbacks, and other types of whale on your tour. Our year-round whale sighting success rate is ~95% (averaged across all of our adventures) with chances being even higher during summer months.

What happens if we don’t see a whale?

This adventure is covered by our year-round Year-Round Whale Sighting Guarantee. In the unlikely case, we do not see whales on this adventure, you can join us on another whale watching tour. This guarantee is valid for a lifetime!

Are there bathrooms on the boat?

The boat we use for this tour is equipped with two airline-style washrooms.

Do passengers often feel seasick?

No, our boats are custom-built for whale watching with passengers in mind. Captain and crew will also do their best to minimize the impact of the sea. However, if you are prone to seasickness, we recommend you purchase non-drowsy Gravol from a pharmacy prior to your adventure with us.

Are there snacks or beverages on board?

Complementary tea, coffee & hot chocolate will be available on board. Light snacks (chips, cookies, chocolate bars) can be purchased with CAD cash. You can also bring your own snacks.

Do I need to make a reservation?

Reservations are definitely recommended. Adventures often sell out and we don’t want you to be disappointed.

Amazing! We were booked onto this full day tour by our travel agent and to be honest we were a little worried that it was going to be too long and tiring a day but I have to say it was a fantastic trip which we would never have undertaken if left to our own devices! We met around 7.45 am at the Prince of Whales offices on Granville Island (which is worth a visit just on its own) and Roya talked us through the day. The boat is a catamaran which feels more stable than a regular boat so no seasickness issues! We had hardly got out of Vancouver when we came across a hump backed whale, followed shortly after by a couple of orcas. The staff onboard (Roya, Mar and Sandy) were so knowledgeable, enthusiastic and friendly and during the tour Roya and Mar took the time to come round to each group of passengers to share their knowledge of marine mammals with us. We later saw another pair of orcas before arriving in Victoria around lunchtime. We opted to have lunch in Victoria before catching a shuttle bus to Butchart Gardens to meet the boat for the return journey. On the journey back we were lucky enough to see another orca and a bald eagle. The boat was well equipped and comfortable with plenty of viewing space upstairs and an inside deck with free hot drinks and some interesting books giving information on marine life and Victoria and Vancouver Island. We docked back in Vancouver around 6.30pm but to be honest the time just flew by and it was a hugely enjoyable day. Thanks too to Malcom, the Captain. I would thoroughly recommend this trip if you are in Vancouver

Cherry on the cake.. Hunting Orcas during our trip! This has been great fun! On Thursday 09/20/2019 we've did an excursion with this Whale Watching Tour. And man, did we see them? YES!! After a long journey of over an hour on the beautiful coastline north of Vancouver. we met up with a group of ORCAS.
The much expierenced crew were enthousiastic and did their best to explane all we wanted to kow and what we were seeing.
The orcas were hunting for food. Some 8-10 of them were lining up at one direction. And than: One of them swam the other way. At some point one of the big ones rises up from the sea.
And turned over a piece of food, probably a just killed seal. We even got that on camera and video. It was very rarely shown. So we felt like the liucky ones.
Great trip. Worth every penny. Great crew, for the love of nature!

Fantastic We had a wonderful time on this whale-watching cruise. The crew was exceptionally informative and their care for the whales' environment was inspiring. Besides being the café crew (with very welcome hot drinks), they were happy to share their knowledge for the whole trip. They were a very friendly and hospitable crew. We didn't see the captain, as he was busy gathering whale-sighting information from other boats and guiding us to the best spots. We saw resident orcas and humpback whales, but even if we had not seen any, the trip would have been a highlight of this Vancouver trip. I will definitely book again when I return to Vancouver.

Unforgettable!!!! Went out on this trip today, July 11.
Although it was a very overcast day we had an amazing time.
We were impressed with how all Covid 19 precautions were followed and the clear explanation of this to guests.
Safety instructions were also every clear.
All the staff were AWESOME and so knowledgable, I learnt so much even though I have lived here almost my whole life.
We were lucky enough to see two seperate grey whale mothers with their calves, so special and we also saw four more grey's and seals etc., amazing.
I feel so lucky to have had this experience, one of those times when you put the camara down and just be in the moment, so special. I can not recommend this enough. All my visitors to town will be headed to Prince of Whales for sure. I have gone whale watching in the past but I recommend Prince of Whales by far, their attention to detail was noticable which made for this an unforgettable experience.
I did not see any orcas so I guess I'll just have to go again😊 then I can to cross the off my list too. I will be back.
Thank you again to all the staff!!

Amazing! I am writing this review a bit late, but this trip was amazing. We started the trip and after 30 minutes we though we were not in luck, but we were so wrong. We saw a a pod of Orcas travelling together, it was more than one family which is very rare they were close enough for us to see them and far enough to not disturb the animals in their habitat. We stayed there for very long until the other boats started to arrive and then we moved to see the humpback whale with the cub. The staff is really friendly and very knowledgeable.

Awesome experience in testy weather Thank goodness for the big boat. Yesterdays weather was not the best with the wind and showers coming through. Choosing the big boat was tbe right choice. Taking us over to the Vancouver Islands we were quickly out of seats with excitement on reports of orca sitings. We saw 2 pods of whales yesterday and it goes down as one of our best nature experiences.

Whale watching Excellent trip, saw whales, seals, sea lions and multiple birds. Guides are very knowledgeable and even able to tell you the name of the whales they think we saw. Added bonus that they send you the photos they take from that day FREE of charge. Would do it again!
