Do tours run in all types of weather?

Tours operate rain or shine! Safety is our priority and, in extreme weather conditions or high winds, adventures may be cancelled at the discretion of our qualified crew. We will be in touch should this be the case.

Will we really see whales?

Yes! There is a high chance of seeing orcas, humpbacks, and other types of whale on your tour. Our year-round whale sighting success rate is ~95% (averaged across all of our adventures) with chances being even higher during summer months.

What happens if we don’t see a whale?

This adventure is covered by our year-round Whale Sighting Guarantee. In the unlikely case, we do not see whales on this adventure, you can join us on another whale watching tour. This guarantee is valid for a lifetime!

Are there bathrooms on the boat?

The boat we use for this tour is equipped with two airline-style washrooms.

Do passengers often feel seasick?

No, our boats are custom-built for whale watching with passengers in mind. Captain and crew will also do their best to minimize the impact of the sea. However, if you are prone to seasickness, we recommend you purchase non-drowsy Gravol from a pharmacy prior to your adventure with us.

Are there snacks or beverages on board?

Complementary tea, coffee & hot chocolate will be available on board. Light snacks (chips, cookies, chocolate bars) can be purchased with CAD cash. You can also bring your own snacks.

Do I need to make a reservation?

Reservations are definitely recommended. Adventures often sell out and we don’t want you to be disappointed.

Do youself a favour! We spent a fabulous day aboard the whale watching boat with Amy, James, Anthony and Sandy. We were treated to sightings of Humpback whales and Orcas and there was even a marriage proposal for one lucky passenger! Amy and James made the tour seem very personal, taking the time to speak individually with passengers about the area, as well as addressing the whole group. We thoroughly enjoyed Victoria but the highlight was the cruise. Well worth the money spent!

Wonderful experience I loved this trip, in fact I went twice. It was amazing! First trip on May 31, we saw a pod of killer whales, a humpback whale named Duvet, harbor seals and a bald eagle. Second trip I went alone, again saw the humpback whale named Duvet, this was on Monday, June 3. The captains Bill and Chris were very informative and I was able to watch how the boat was steered into the harbor. Fabulous. Also Lily, the naturalist and all of the crew on these days were great. I loved it and would recommend it to anyone. I tell everyone here at home about it and wear my hat I ordered. Thanks all of you.

Excellent Value, Magical Day This is one of the best tours we have found on multiple trips to the Vancouver area! We have been on several Prince of Whales tours over the years, and they are always worth the time and money.

The crossing to Vancouver Island is beautiful, and on this trip, you take a few scenic detours between the islands that are just gorgeous. We were lucky enough to see humpback whales, orcas, otters and seals. The captain took plenty of time to stop and look at the wildlife.

On arrival to Victoria, you can choose among several departure times for the bus to Butchart Gardens. One caveat: there really isn't enough time to do justice to both Victoria and the Gardens. We opted to take the early bus to the gardens, and we had exactly the right amount of time. The gardens are spectacular, so we feel we made the right choice.

On the trip back, we again saw gorgeous scenery, humpbacks, orcas, otters and seals.

The staff at Prince of Whales is wonderful. Stewart, Chris and the rest of the crew were friendly and knowledgable. The boat is very comfortable, and they provide free coffee, tea and cocoa.

They do run on time! Don't arrive 5 minutes late, because they will have left 2 minutes early. Also, weather will be a factor. A calm, sunny day will be a different experience than a cold, rainy one - but the boat does have ample seating inside in case the weather doesn't cooperate.

We would highly recommend Prince of Whales!

Awesome experience We had a fantastic time with the Prince of Whales team on our recent whale watching trip.
The team made a major effort to make the trip both enjoyable as well as giving us ample opportunity to observe the whales, which resulted in an amazing experience for everyone.

Great Afternoon At Sea This was our last afternoon in Vancouver & it definitely did not disappoint.
Good solid, & powerful boat, efficient & knowledgeable staff.
We sited a mother humpback whale with her calf & another whale tagging along. seals & sea lions (plus learnt the difference) & an immature bald headed eagle.
Would definitely go again, as want to see the orcas.

Wonderful Crew Having recent mobility limitations due to knee surgery, I was a bit leery about going on this trip, but I remembered how enjoyable it was years ago & wanted to show some visiting relatives a good time. The crew allowed me to board before the rest of the guests, explained the benefits of various seating locations & helped me to a seat. We went to a few different locations & saw several whales. The crew discussed the differing characteristics of the whales & had a wealth of information. At the end, they were gracious enough to offer to share their photos of the whales, which I’m sure will be better than mine. I eagerly await them. Captain Chris, First Mate Joe, Seanie & Lili are the crew names I remember, although I’ve left some out for sure. They were all great.

Beautiful! Ok this was just absolute frekin fantastic. Hopped on a beautiful boat with some of the most knowledgeable people on the planet. They knew their whales, their fauna the weather, geography and spoke clear and articulate. Smooth ride on a chilly rainy day but was rewarded with a whale mugging. Spotted a brown Pelican and saw California Sea lions who barked like asking for our names. The crew was top notch and just as excited to see the whale visiting us,as we were. They love what they do and it shows. Very memorable.

Whales & so much more First thanks to Aurora who was an excellent tour guide and was excellent with the children. They've remembered so much she said!

A great trip, well organized. We saw a whale many times then headed towards Vancouver island to see seals, sealions and bald eagles. What a treat!

We were at the end of the queue getting on so ended up downstairs behind the glass at the front which was disappointing. However this was lucky as we didn't get blown around so much as those outside. The first hour-ish was zooming along getting to the desired location. So outside people were getting sprayed, etc.
