Do tours run in all types of weather?

Tours operate rain or shine! Safety is our priority and, in extreme weather conditions or high winds, adventures may be cancelled at the discretion of our qualified crew. We will be in touch should this be the case.

Will we really see whales?

Yes! There is a high chance of seeing orcas, humpbacks, and other types of whale on your tour. Our year-round whale sighting success rate is ~95% (averaged across all of our adventures) with chances being even higher during summer months.

What happens if we don’t see a whale?

This adventure is covered by our year-round Whale Sighting Guarantee. In the unlikely case, we do not see whales on this adventure, you can join us on another whale watching tour. This guarantee is valid for a lifetime!

When is the best time of day for watching whales?

There really is no better time of day for whale sightings, as the whales do not run on a schedule as we do! The whales are active throughout the day and their behaviour changes as groups encounter each other. If you are looking for the best scenic light for photography choose morning departure.

Are there bathrooms on the Zodiacs?

No, the RHIBs are open-air boats, and therefore do not have washrooms on board. We recommend that you use the public washrooms (located next to our office) before your departure.

Are there snacks or beverages available on board the Zodiacs?

No, there are no snacks or beverages available on the Zodiac-style boats. You can bring your own snacks on board; however, do not consume too many liquids as there are no bathrooms onboard.

Do passengers often feel seasick?

No, our boats are custom-built for whale watching with passengers in mind. Captain and crew will also do their best to minimize the impact of the sea. However, if you are prone to seasickness, we recommend you purchase non-drowsy Gravol from a pharmacy prior to your adventure with us.

Can I bring a camera on a Zodiac?

Yes! Bring your camera and/or video camera to capture the experience. We also recommend that you bring a plastic bag or other waterproof case to keep your camera safe and dry during transit. The boat will come to a complete stop for photo opportunities.

Are Zodiac adventures safe?

Yes, all of our captains and boats are certified by Transport Canada. Zodiacs move fast but are very stable. There will be no 360-degree turns on this tour. These adventures are designed for fast sightseeing and not a thrill park ride.

Do I need to make a reservation?

Reservations are definitely recommended. Adventures often sell out and we don’t want you to be disappointed.

Amazing experience Excellent experience!! Everyone who worked there was super friendly and knowledgeable about the animals we saw! During the 3 hours we were out there we say 4 humpback whales, a bunch of different seals and 13 killer whales! It was amazing. We got super close to the animals to take pictures but we’re still respectful and gave them enough space between us.

Excellent trip with very knowledgeable guides We had a great morning on the boat, and saw humpback whales, bald eagles, seals and sea lions. The knowledge and information that the guides had was great.
The boat was well equipped with toilets and refreshments.
Layering up with clothing is recommended as the wind on the ocean can be a bit chilly.

Fantastic Experience Wow, what a morning! Albeit a very windswept one!

I was originally booked onto the sunset whale watching trip but due to the weather forecast had to change to the morning trip instead. Austen was our captain, and a great one at that, speeding across the water to where he;d heard there were some orca. And there they were - a pod of around 7/8 of tthem hunting and feeding, and putting on a greeat display for us!

It was amazing to seethese graceful beautiful creatures doing what they do best, without a care for us and to see the majority of boats respect them and keeping their distance (although some of the private boats were not so well behaved!) This is wherer whales beolng and should be seen, not in aquariums.

As well as the whales (which were obviously the highlight!) Austen was great at talking about other points of interest on the trip too.

The whole PoW team of staff were all great and helplful in every way, so would recommend them for any of their tours. Thanks guys!

What a great experience. A truly great trip on June 4th, we got to see Orcas, seeks, as well as many different types of sea birds, plus unbelievable but a Wolf on an uninhabited island,
A very big thank you to all the ships crew, but a special mention to Seanie who made this a truly memorable experience. Her knowledge and willingness to explain things to us all was outstanding. Thanks Seanie you made our day.

Great Whale Watching Trip, Super-friendly Crew! Starting from beautiful Telegraph Cove, I participated in a whale watching tour. We took our boat through the areas where they expected to find certain whales. We got lucky to get approached by a few Doll's Purpose. Later, we saw a few humpback whales and even a family of orcas! To finish it all off, we saw a sea otter swimming close by. It was such a great experience! Much more than I expected.

The crew was well informed and could always provide relevant information to what we saw out on the waters. It was pretty cool how the captain was able to spot and approach wildlife, just by sight, with minimum disturbance of the animals. Shoutout to Rebecca for answering all my questions, it was so interesting to learn so much about whales! Would do again if I had the chance too.

Wonderful! One of the highlights of our trip! They have a 100% whale sighting guarantee which is nice, but the 1/2 day trip is lovely in itself. Of course, the absolute highlight was seeing a whole pod of Orcas (though they didn't breach)! They are amazing. Lovely company to book your trip with, as well--staff are very friendly and helpful and the price is reasonable

Best part of our vacation The crew was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. We did see three separate sightings of whales, seals, and bald eagles. James was especially nice and out going. The Ultimate excursion was a little expensive, but worth the price for a once in a lifetime trip. We are so glad that we made this trip with Prince of Whales.

A must-do in Victoria - we saw humpback whales, orcas, everything! This was a fantastic whale-watching trip - if you only have time to do one thing in Victoria, do this (apparently mid-July to late August is the best time to go, and we went on August 20). The staff (Rory, Lily, Bill, and Joe) were very friendly and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend going in the morning, because the weather conditions are better, you see more, and there are fewer people on the boat (I think the boat holds about 90 people and we were only about 20). Also dress up warm - even on a sunny day it gets very cold on the boat. Dress like it's going to be very sunny and very cold - you might need rain gear too. Also bring snacks or money for snacks - whale watching is hungry work!

The trip itself was amazing. We saw six or seven humpback whales, two families of orcas, sea lions, and a sea otter. The sea was like glass and the weather conditions were perfect so we could see everything. One of the humpback whales surfaced right near our boat, which was breathtaking because of its sheer size. Then we moved on to the orcas, and each family had just killed a seal, so we saw them thrashing around and slapping their tails and generally celebrating. Then one of them was so happy it leapt right out of the water (which we got on camera)! Apparently this is quite rare. After that we went to the lighthouse where the sea lions and the sea otter hang out.

Overall, it was a great experience and I would highly, highly recommend it. It was one of the highlights of our trip out West (the other was the Rockies!)

Do it! We enjoyed it immensely. Wilma our naturalist was very knowledgeable and passionate in her job. The whole staff was very friendly. We saw probably 8 humpback whales and an eagle, sea lions and seals. We made multiple stops to see the wildlife. You will not be disappointed you took this 4 hour tour.

Absolutely Fantastic We went on the afternoon trip aboard the catamaran.

We saw a humpback whale then 300m away were a pod of 8 killer whales! They came within 10m or so of the boat. It was incredible to watch. Then we sailed to another part of the sea and found another pod!

The staff were just as excited about it as us. They were all very knowledgeable and a particular shout out to Seanie who answered all our questions!

If you like whales then go with this company.
