Hold on to your hat and brace yourself for a refreshing spray of sea air as your Zodiac takes off alongside harbour planes, cutting through our pristine waters in search of orcas and humpback whales. Did you know? Orcas can swim up to 48 kilometers or 30 miles per hour—almost as fast as our boats!

What To Bring

It gets cold out on the water (trust us!), so we recommend windbreaker jackets, sweaters, long pants, and closed-toe shoes. We will also provide you with warm all-weather exposure suits to wear on top of your clothes. Gloves & hats will also be available upon request.

It’s also a good idea to bring sunglasses, sunscreen, a tight-fitting hat, a camera to capture some memorable moments and, above all, your sense of adventure!

We were very lucky!! Spotted the big 5: killer whales, humpback whales, dolphins (yes Patrick, those were dolphins), seals and sea lions. Amazing tour. Professional captain, great gear. We didn't get wet, almost.
    Highly recommend.

Amazing experience! My husband and I went on this tour on our last day in Vancouver. We could not have asked for a better send-off. It was absolutely gorgeous day and we saw two groups of whales. During the second group one of them popped its head up out of the water to show us its chin. I couldn't believe how close it was to the boat. We got lucky. The seals and sea lions were also showing off. The crew shared all kinds of fun facts and we were even able to identify one whale by its tail. Just a 10/10 experience.

We got tons of new information about whales, seals and other ocean creatures. Met four humpback whales near the islands, enjoyed Spectacular views and chilled with seals. money well spent and no regrets.

Salish Sea Eclipse is absolutely the best whale watching, marine wildlife tour vessel on Vancouver Island! Yesterday afternoon we left the dock at 5 PM for a sunset tour to head north up Haro Strait to see a beautiful mother humpback with her new calf. The viewing was spectacular! It was my first time on the Salish Sea Eclipse, Prince of Whales latest addition to their impressive fleet. 85' LOA, 95 Passengers and 5 crew and stunning viewing decks no matter where you are on board. Even though we were at full or almost full capacity, the vessel still feels spacious with lots of room to move around.. This sleek, 4 engine, jet boat whisks their passengers off at cruising speed of 30 knots in total comfort. Inside the main cabin are deck to ceiling windows for fantastic visibility. The cabin is climate controlled with a refreshments bar and comfortable seating and tables. 2 spacious heads are easily accessible. Now for the crew! Lilli Wilson was outstanding! Deck Lead and Naturalist extraordinaire! Not only did she run through an entertaining and informative safety briefing and vessel overview, her knowledge of the area and the marine environment with all of its wondrous creatures left us all feeling like we learned something new every time she pointed something out. Captain Bill and First Mate Joe commanded the vessel with skill and made sure that all on board had a fantastic viewing opportunity. Thank you again for such a lovely evening out on the water. I'd give 10 stars if I could... instead a nice fat, well deserved, tip for the crew to share for a job well done had to do.

Amazing! Best Whale Watching! We went out and were a little worried that it would be a "big boat" experience but we were very happily wrong! The boat is divided into two decks (but not like most whale watch boats). The two decks each had their own naturalist and there were maybe 30 of us on each deck but it felt like way less. The seating was cozy and our naturalist Wilma was wonderful! She was so enthusiastic about the whales and was very knowledgeable. She also was willing to find out the answers to any questions she did not know (which were not many and were mostly about things that were not wildlife). We were lucky to go in later September and we were the only boat out there for most of the time so we got to observe two transient pods for an hour. I definitely recommend this company and if you are lucky enough to have Wilma as your naturalist - then you've definitely gotten on the best whale watch in Vancouver. I am sure the other staff are also excellent, but Wilma was outstanding.

Let's do it again! So professional and so caring even in these uncertain times.
Loved all the information that the staff gave on the Whales.
They really made sure that even with social distancing everyone knew what was happening at all time and where to look etc. .
Saw lots of Grey Whales will have to go again and hope for Orcas .

Do tours run in all types of weather?

Tours operate rain or shine! Safety is our priority and, in extreme weather conditions or high winds, adventures may be cancelled at the discretion of our qualified crew. We will be in touch should this be the case.

Will we really see whales?

Yes! There is a high chance of seeing orcas, humpbacks, and other types of whale on your tour. Our year-round whale sighting success rate is ~95% (averaged across all of our adventures) with chances being even higher during summer months.

What happens if we don’t see a whale?

This adventure is covered by our year-round Year-Round Whale Sighting Guarantee. In the unlikely case, we do not see whales on this adventure, you can join us on another whale watching tour. This guarantee is valid for a lifetime!

When is the best time of day for watching whales?

There really is no better time of day for whale sightings, as the whales do not run on a schedule as we do! The whales are active throughout the day and their behaviour changes as groups encounter each other. If you are looking for the best scenic light for photography choose morning departure.

Are there bathrooms on the Zodiacs?

No, the RHIBs are open-air boats, and therefore do not have washrooms on board. We recommend that you use the public washrooms (located next to our office) before your departure.

Do passengers often feel seasick?

No, our boats are custom-built for whale watching with passengers in mind. Captain and crew will also do their best to minimize the impact of the sea. However, if you are prone to seasickness, we recommend you purchase non-drowsy Gravol from a pharmacy prior to your adventure with us.

Are there snacks or beverages available on board the Catamarans?

Yes! Complimentary tea, coffee & hot chocolate will be available on board. Light snacks (chips, cookies and chocolate bars) can be purchased with CAD cash. You can also bring your own snacks.

Can I bring a camera on a Zodiac?

Yes! Bring your camera and/or video camera to capture the experience. We also recommend that you bring a plastic bag or other waterproof case to keep your camera safe and dry during transit. The boat will come to a complete stop for photo opportunities.

Are Zodiac adventures safe?

Yes, all of our captains and boats are certified by Transport Canada. Zodiacs move fast but are very stable. There will be no 360-degree turns on this tour. These adventures are designed for fast sightseeing and not a thrill park ride.

Do I need to make a reservation?

Reservations are definitely recommended. Adventures often sell out and we don’t want you to be disappointed.
