Do tours run in all types of weather?

Tours operate rain or shine! Safety is our priority and, in extreme weather conditions or high winds, adventures may be cancelled at the discretion of our qualified crew. We will be in touch should this be the case.

Will we really see whales?

Yes! There is a high chance of seeing orcas, humpbacks, and other types of whale on your tour. Our year-round whale sighting success rate is ~95% (averaged across all of our adventures) with chances being even higher during summer months.

What happens if we don’t see a whale?

This adventure is covered by our year-round Year-Round Whale Sighting Guarantee. In the unlikely case, we do not see whales on this adventure, you can join us on another whale watching tour. This guarantee is valid for a lifetime!

When is the best time of day for watching whales?

There really is no better time of day for whale sightings, as the whales do not run on a schedule as we do! The whales are active throughout the day and their behaviour changes as groups encounter each other. If you are looking for the best scenic light for photography choose morning departure.

Are there bathrooms on the Zodiacs?

No, the RHIBs are open-air boats, and therefore do not have washrooms on board. We recommend that you use the public washrooms (located next to our office) before your departure.

Do passengers often feel seasick?

No, our boats are custom-built for whale watching with passengers in mind. Captain and crew will also do their best to minimize the impact of the sea. However, if you are prone to seasickness, we recommend you purchase non-drowsy Gravol from a pharmacy prior to your adventure with us.

Are there snacks or beverages available on board the Catamarans?

Yes! Complimentary tea, coffee & hot chocolate will be available on board. Light snacks (chips, cookies and chocolate bars) can be purchased with CAD cash. You can also bring your own snacks.

Can I bring a camera on a Zodiac?

Yes! Bring your camera and/or video camera to capture the experience. We also recommend that you bring a plastic bag or other waterproof case to keep your camera safe and dry during transit. The boat will come to a complete stop for photo opportunities.

Are Zodiac adventures safe?

Yes, all of our captains and boats are certified by Transport Canada. Zodiacs move fast but are very stable. There will be no 360-degree turns on this tour. These adventures are designed for fast sightseeing and not a thrill park ride.

Do I need to make a reservation?

Reservations are definitely recommended. Adventures often sell out and we don’t want you to be disappointed.

ITS THE MOST AMAZING EXPERIENCE We had the most amazing and exciting experience ever! We been sailing for a couple of hours with wonderful scenic views. We were very lucky, we saw killer whales, they were about 15 or 20, from 200 meters away. We spent a lot of time taking pictures and just seeing them swimming, enjoying the experience. And after seeing them from that distance, suddenly the motor of the boat was turned off, because the killer whales were swimming toward us, we were very excited, they were very near from our boat, it was a breathtaking experience seeing them on the wild.
Thanks to all the team that gave us an excellent experience! We would never forget it in our entire life.

Also a humpback whale was swimming with the killer whales...

Wonderful afternoon Had a great 3 hour late afternoon trip. Staff were pleasant and informative. Spent time identifying individual whales and letting us listen to whales ‘talking ‘ by hydrophone. Spotted orcas and humpback and saw the biggest salmon ever in its natural habitat. Thank you Andy & staff for a memorable trip

Whale watching boat tour This tour exceeded all of our expectations. Captain Aaron and First Mate Wilma did a great job finding us some very rare sightings of resident killer whales and Olivia was the Naturalist who told us about the wildlife we were seeing, and could not have been more nice and helpful.
Highly recommend prince of Whales Whale Watching tours!

So much fun! This was so much fun! Our kids LOVED it and the crew were so kind and easy going. Lovely experience. We didn't see any whales but we had tons of laughs and saw some Sea Lions and seals, and breathtaking views. The ride itself was so fun we commented several times that we'd have done JUST that. Thanks again!

Recent whale watching tour This was the most incredible day of my life! We were told at the beginning of our tour that we might not see more than one type of whale but the whale gods shined down on us that day because we got to see both humpbacks and a pod of orcas. I’ve dreamed of that day my entire life and it brought tears to my eyes when we first came upon the humpbacks. The staff was absolutely amazing. Wilma was the best, she was very informative and answered all our questions. It was great to see her excitement at our being able to find both species of whales. I would definitely return to Vancouver and go on another tour with this group...if only I could be on Wilma’s boat. Thanks to the staff for the best day of my life, I will never forget this experience.

Full day whale watching from Vancouver to Victoria The whole trip was very nicely organised, the boat is big and comfortable and the staff is very knowledgable and nice.

We saw humback whales on our way to Victoria, lots of seals and different birds, but unfortunately no orcas. However, we were lucky enough to have the sight of them (a family of 3-5 orcas) on our way back from Vancouver to Victoria - the captain stayed long enough for us to see them and enjoy their playfullness.

The Butchart gardens are also very nice and quite big - you should take the 2:00 p.m. shuttle from Victoria the latest if you want to at least go through all the gardens and make it to the return boat.

I only wish we had more time in Victoria (you arrive at app. noon, maybe a bit sooner, and if you take the 2 p.m. shuttle to the gardens, you have only couple of hours in the city), but that's not the problem of the company. I believe you can stay for the night and return the next day on the same return boat to Vancouver, but we just didn't have enough time to do so.

All in all, great experience! :)

Excellent trip with very knowledgeable guides We had a great morning on the boat, and saw humpback whales, bald eagles, seals and sea lions. The knowledge and information that the guides had was great.
The boat was well equipped with toilets and refreshments.
Layering up with clothing is recommended as the wind on the ocean can be a bit chilly.
