Do tours run in all types of weather?

Tours operate rain or shine! Safety is our priority and, in extreme weather conditions or high winds, adventures may be cancelled at the discretion of our qualified crew. We will be in touch should this be the case.

Will we really see whales?

Yes! There is a high chance of seeing orcas, humpbacks, and other types of whale on your tour. Our year-round whale sighting success rate is ~95% (averaged across all of our adventures) with chances being even higher during summer months.

What happens if we don’t see a whale?

This adventure is covered by our year-round Whale Sighting Guarantee. In the unlikely case, we do not see whales on this adventure, you can join us on another whale watching tour. This guarantee is valid for a lifetime!

When is the best time of day for watching whales?

There really is no better time of day for whale sightings, as the whales do not run on a schedule as we do! The whales are active throughout the day and their behaviour changes as groups encounter each other. If you are looking for the best scenic light for photography choose morning departure.

Are there bathrooms on the Zodiacs?

No, the RHIBs are open-air boats, and therefore do not have washrooms on board. We recommend that you use the public washrooms (located next to our office) before your departure.

Do passengers often feel seasick?

No, our boats are custom-built for whale watching with passengers in mind. Captain and crew will also do their best to minimize the impact of the sea. However, if you are prone to seasickness, we recommend you purchase non-drowsy Gravol from a pharmacy prior to your adventure with us.

Are there snacks or beverages available on board the Catamarans?

Yes! Complimentary tea, coffee & hot chocolate will be available on board. Light snacks (chips, cookies and chocolate bars) can be purchased with CAD cash. You can also bring your own snacks.

Can I bring a camera on a Zodiac?

Yes! Bring your camera and/or video camera to capture the experience. We also recommend that you bring a plastic bag or other waterproof case to keep your camera safe and dry during transit. The boat will come to a complete stop for photo opportunities.

Are Zodiac adventures safe?

Yes, all of our captains and boats are certified by Transport Canada. Zodiacs move fast but are very stable. There will be no 360-degree turns on this tour. These adventures are designed for fast sightseeing and not a thrill park ride.

Do I need to make a reservation?

Reservations are definitely recommended. Adventures often sell out and we don’t want you to be disappointed.

We all enjoyed the day going to Vancouver Island The whale watching trip out of Vancouver was fun and the folks on the boat were great. They engaged with everyone on board. We saw some Orcas and the views were lovely. Victoria is beautiful and Butchard Gardens a delight. High tea in the restaurant was delicious. It was perfect being able to leave from Butchart cove.

Great Trip...... A good trip where 3 of our party thoroughly enjoyed the whole trip both scenery and whale spotting. Whilst I was somewhat underwhelmed as in the 3.5 hours on the water, total time seeing a part of a whale was about 5-10 minutes. There were no whales jumping out of the water. The Prince if Whales guys wer3 great and tried their absolute best to locate the Whales which they did. It was as it said on the tin.

What a fantastic experience!! What a fantastic experience to see whales out in the wild. I was on the afternoon half day cruise. The staff and crew on this tour were brilliant. The staff had great knowledge of the area and the wildlife in it and the captain had the brilliant sailing knowledge and radio contact to find some orca’s. We followed their path for an hour. Whilst following them the staff gave us information on the type of whale we were watching and any information they had on the group. A thoroughly enjoyable experience. Thank you!

Whale Watching :) I did the half day whale watching today and it didn’t disappoint! Not long into the boat ride at all we spotted a humpback and her calf, they were around us for a good hour before we had to move on. Amazing experience! Saw seals, eagles and had generally an amazing experience on board. The crew were friendly and so knowledgable! They knew all the regular spots in the hope we would see whales, and we were lucky that we did :) All in all money well spent!

Great excursion Our family of four had a great time with Prince of Whales. All the staff on board the vessel were excellent, especially Sandy who took a lot of time to provide information and facts about whales and marine life in general. It is obvious all of the crew are passionate about whales, the sea, and the environment. The captain did everything he could to maximize our view of the group of whales we located. Everything was very organized. All in all, a memorable experience, highly recommended.

Great experience all around! The company was respectful of the environment and it's inhabitants. They provided comfort and safety in a relaxed atmoshere. Valerie is charming and extremely informative! We were lucky to have sightings of many different animals but even if we had not the trip and knowledgeable staff would have been enough. Deck hand Roy was generous with his excellent photography. It was an overall joy!

A must-do in Victoria - we saw humpback whales, orcas, everything! This was a fantastic whale-watching trip - if you only have time to do one thing in Victoria, do this (apparently mid-July to late August is the best time to go, and we went on August 20). The staff (Rory, Lily, Bill, and Joe) were very friendly and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend going in the morning, because the weather conditions are better, you see more, and there are fewer people on the boat (I think the boat holds about 90 people and we were only about 20). Also dress up warm - even on a sunny day it gets very cold on the boat. Dress like it's going to be very sunny and very cold - you might need rain gear too. Also bring snacks or money for snacks - whale watching is hungry work!

The trip itself was amazing. We saw six or seven humpback whales, two families of orcas, sea lions, and a sea otter. The sea was like glass and the weather conditions were perfect so we could see everything. One of the humpback whales surfaced right near our boat, which was breathtaking because of its sheer size. Then we moved on to the orcas, and each family had just killed a seal, so we saw them thrashing around and slapping their tails and generally celebrating. Then one of them was so happy it leapt right out of the water (which we got on camera)! Apparently this is quite rare. After that we went to the lighthouse where the sea lions and the sea otter hang out.

Overall, it was a great experience and I would highly, highly recommend it. It was one of the highlights of our trip out West (the other was the Rockies!)

Whales and more...! Great afternoon, seeing a family of 5 Orca whales followed some humpback's.. Also saw a colony of seals and sealions on the way back. The crew (Chris and Bill on the 'bridge' and Valerie, Launa and Seana as ecological guides) enhanced the sightings with knowledgable commentary. A great way to see amazing wildlife in its natural surroundings!
