Hold on to your hat and brace yourself for a refreshing spray of sea air as your Zodiac takes off alongside harbour planes, cutting through our pristine waters in search of orcas and humpback whales. With a seasoned captain as your guide, you’re in safe hands.

Did you know? Orcas can swim up to 48 kilometers or 30 miles per hour—almost as fast as our boats!

What To Bring

It gets cold out on the water (trust us!), so we recommend windbreaker jackets, sweaters, long pants, and closed-toe shoes. We will also provide you with warm all-weather exposure suits to wear on top of your clothes. Gloves & hats will also be available upon request.

It’s also a good idea to bring sunglasses, sunscreen, a tight-fitting hat, a camera to capture some memorable moments and, above all, your sense of adventure!

Just do it! We chose the "Zodiac" trip (high speed rib ride) - trip starts with a comprehensive induction and kit out with floatation suit/hat and gloves (it was a very warm day but when out there the suit is fine (I wore shorts and shirt with trainers which was ideal and also wore the hat- don't forget your shades and definitely put the sun screen on, lockers provided for personal items- take phone in plastic bag) - this is 3hour+ trip so prepare and you take drink/snacks with you on the boat if read. It is an exhilarating ride so older children/teenagers will love it. This is a great way to sight see as well as experiencing the wildlife, we saw Killer whales, seals and even a Humpback whale!!!
Our guide/Pilot "Jasper" was friendly and very knowledgeable - a real young gent and a pleasure to spend time with!

Amazing and informative experience. We were so glad that we went whale watching. It wasn't the cheapest activity but seeing as some of the money goes towards conservation then that was fine by us. We went with the mindset that we'd be pleased with whatever we saw and we got very lucky as we we're able to follow a pod of orca as well as seeing humpback whales. The staff were brilliant in particular Mike the captain and Jen the first mate who was on hand to answer any questions and show us pictures of the orcas that we had just seen. Jen was also brilliant with the children on board. I would definitely recommend this to any nature lovers.

I would just ensure that you leave plenty of time to get from Downtown to Granville Island if you weren't getting a taxi as it's a good walk + short bus boat across to the island.

Great evening on the water We were on the sunset cruise on July 17 2020. We had Lili, Maia and Jen as our crew staff/ naturalists and Bill and Joe as the Captains. We saw several humpback whales and had dall's porpoises playing in our wake for several minutes. Truly breathtaking. All the crew were personable, very informative and kind, all measures were taken for social distancing, etc...very enjoyable and would recommend to anyone looking to see some of the wildlife in the local waters around Victoria. Cherry on top was the free face masks adorned with whales :)

Great way to travel from Victoria to Vancouver AND see Butchart Gardens. Butchart Gardens are magnificent just by themselves.
We checked-in at Victoria, where they took our luggage.
Bus to the Gardens. So beautiful. 4:45 departure by ferry
to Vancouver from Butchart dock. The crew was fantastic.
We got an unexpected whale watching tour on the way.
arrived at the dock in Vancouver, and claimed our luggage.

Awesome day! It was a beautiful day and the tour started on time. We started from Granville Island on a 74 seater vessel. It was very windy out in the sea but we saw some really beautiful moments of a mother teaching her calf to swim/ feed in the water. We were very lucky to cruise parallel to the two Humpback Whales’ direction of movement. There were some very thrilling moments we witnessed! Truly awesome and recommended! The tour guides were all very friendly and well informed. They also relayed a lot of information about the whales and other sea animals. We saw sea lions lazying on the rocks as well! Overall a truly beautiful day!

So much fun! My husband and I booked this half day trip in hopes of seeing a whale or two - we saw 5! All humpbacks. The Orcas didn’t make an appearance but seeing whales up close like that was amazing. Wilma was excellent as first mate and was so knowledgeable. Captain Aaron was great and kept trying to get us closer to the whales or try to find more for us. Selena and Aurora were great too! They greeted us, explained what to expect and were so personable. Quite funny girls! They say half day because of the wild nature of the whales, you might have to wait out there for the full 5 hours, but it can be as short as 3-3.5 hours (like ours). Either way this is a great afternoon excursion and definitely recommend it!

Do tours run in all types of weather?

Tours operate rain or shine! Safety is our priority and, in extreme weather conditions or high winds, adventures may be cancelled at the discretion of our qualified crew. We will be in touch should this be the case.

Will we really see whales?

Yes! There is a high chance of seeing orcas, humpbacks, and other types of whale on your tour. Our year-round whale sighting success rate is ~95% (averaged across all of our adventures) with chances being even higher during summer months.

What happens if we don’t see a whale?

This adventure is covered by our year-round Year-Round Whale Sighting Guarantee. In the unlikely case, we do not see whales on this adventure, you can join us on another whale watching tour. This guarantee is valid for a lifetime!

When is the best time of day for watching whales?

There really is no better time of day for whale sightings, as the whales do not run on a schedule as we do! The whales are active throughout the day and their behaviour changes as groups encounter each other. If you are looking for the best scenic light for photography choose morning departure.

Are there bathrooms on the Zodiacs?

No, the RHIBs are open-air boats, and therefore do not have washrooms on board. We recommend that you use the public washrooms (located next to our office) before your departure.

Do passengers often feel seasick?

No, our boats are custom-built for whale watching with passengers in mind. Captain and crew will also do their best to minimize the impact of the sea. However, if you are prone to seasickness, we recommend you purchase non-drowsy Gravol from a pharmacy prior to your adventure with us.

Are there snacks or beverages available on board the Catamarans?

Yes! Complimentary tea, coffee & hot chocolate will be available on board. Light snacks (chips, cookies and chocolate bars) can be purchased with CAD cash. You can also bring your own snacks.

Can I bring a camera on a Zodiac?

Yes! Bring your camera and/or video camera to capture the experience. We also recommend that you bring a plastic bag or other waterproof case to keep your camera safe and dry during transit. The boat will come to a complete stop for photo opportunities.

Are Zodiac adventures safe?

Yes, all of our captains and boats are certified by Transport Canada. Zodiacs move fast but are very stable. There will be no 360-degree turns on this tour. These adventures are designed for fast sightseeing and not a thrill park ride.

Do I need to make a reservation?

Reservations are definitely recommended. Adventures often sell out and we don’t want you to be disappointed.
