Do tours run in all types of weather?

Tours operate rain or shine! Safety is our priority and, in extreme weather conditions or high winds, adventures may be cancelled at the discretion of our qualified crew. We will be in touch should this be the case.

Will we really see whales?

Yes! There is a high chance of seeing orcas, humpbacks, and other types of whale on your tour. Our year-round whale sighting success rate is ~95% (averaged across all of our adventures) with chances being even higher during summer months.

What happens if we don’t see a whale?

This adventure is covered by our year-round Whale Sighting Guarantee. In the unlikely case, we do not see whales on this adventure, you can join us on another whale watching tour. This guarantee is valid for a lifetime!

When is the best time of day for watching whales?

There really is no better time of day for whale sightings, as the whales do not run on a schedule as we do! The whales are active throughout the day and their behaviour changes as groups encounter each other. If you are looking for the best scenic light for photography choose morning departure.

Are there bathrooms on the Zodiacs?

No, the RHIBs are open-air boats, and therefore do not have washrooms on board. We recommend that you use the public washrooms (located next to our office) before your departure.

Do passengers often feel seasick?

No, our boats are custom-built for whale watching with passengers in mind. Captain and crew will also do their best to minimize the impact of the sea. However, if you are prone to seasickness, we recommend you purchase non-drowsy Gravol from a pharmacy prior to your adventure with us.

Are there snacks or beverages available on board the Catamarans?

Yes! Complimentary tea, coffee & hot chocolate will be available on board. Light snacks (chips, cookies and chocolate bars) can be purchased with CAD cash. You can also bring your own snacks.
Please not because of COVID light snacks will not be available.

Can I bring a camera on a Zodiac?

Yes! Bring your camera and/or video camera to capture the experience. We also recommend that you bring a plastic bag or other waterproof case to keep your camera safe and dry during transit. The boat will come to a complete stop for photo opportunities.

Are Zodiac adventures safe?

Yes, all of our captains and boats are certified by Transport Canada. Zodiacs move fast but are very stable. There will be no 360-degree turns on this tour. These adventures are designed for fast sightseeing and not a thrill park ride.

Do I need to make a reservation?

Reservations are definitely recommended. Adventures often sell out and we don’t want you to be disappointed.

Awesome experience We had a fantastic time with the Prince of Whales team on our recent whale watching trip.
The team made a major effort to make the trip both enjoyable as well as giving us ample opportunity to observe the whales, which resulted in an amazing experience for everyone.

Great crew to be with for a great trip! Saw 3 pods of Orcas, probably 15 total. A few even came up sooo close to the boat even if the boat has stopped moving already. The crew was so attentive: they gave us clean blankets when it got cold and windy, they were patient with all the kids' questions, they were always smiling and helpful.

Amazing trip and crew! A fantastic trip all around! We saw humpbacks, orcas, and seals several times during the trip. The entire day was well organized, including whale watching, a bus ride and entrance to Butchart Gardens, and a convenient pick up at the end of the gardens. Our crew (Amy, Stu, and James) was very attentive and knowledgeable. Overall, I would highly recommend the day tour to Victoria.

Exciting and Educational! This was one of our best days out in Victoria! We chose the morning whale watching trip and we were thoroughly treated to a few pods of whales feeding in the bay. Once we reached a point far from the shore, we started spotting whale activity and we were entertained for the next hour! Pods of whales were feeding, diving and surfacing in the general area so the captain was able to direct the catamaran as close as possible while still being safe for the whales, making sure we didn't disturb them during their feeding. This was mid-August, so it was the height of their feeding season. We were delighted! We also were treated to a view of loads of seals resting or playing on a nearby island. It was a magical day for all of our family and it was some of the best spent hours of our lives!

Spy hopping orcas! We had an amazing time with the Zodiac Boat tour on 12/30/19. Our skipper was knowledgeable and experienced, and very respectful of the animals we encountered. With an attention to detail and safety, we felt very secure during our whole experience. The trip as a whole was the highlight of our visit to Victoria, and getting to see orcas, humpbacks, seals, sea lions, and more was just phenomenal. Highly recommend this tour company, we were very happy with the office staff, orientation and prep time, hot cocoa after we returned, definitely worth it!

Whale watching 1/2 day Unforgettable experience! Capt Erin, Stu, Wilma, Aurora and the rest of the crew did everything they could to make sure everyone was happy! Not only was it fun, it was fruitful- we saw a total of 8 Orcas playing, breaching and eating. Capt Erin’s perseverance paid off and we had the best time ever. We learned a lot too!

Wonderful afternoon trip We had a wonderful trip on the catamaran. The crew were friendly and very knowledgeable about the area and the wildlife. You can’t guarantee what will show up Ona trip like this but we saw an abundance including stellar seals, elephant seal, bald eagles, a sea otter, harbour porpoises and the stars of the show about six humpback whales. The best moment was watching the whales rise and dive with no other boats in sight, the engines off and everyone silent. Absolutely magical. Would highly recommend this tour.
