OUR CONSERVATION FUND
Transparency is at the heart of our Conservation Fund. Every guest contributes a $5 conservation fee, with 100% of these funds directed to marine research, education, and conservation initiatives in British Columbia. By sharing exactly where these contributions go, we ensure every passenger helps protect the Salish Sea and its wildlife.

Bay Cetology | July 2026
Prince of Whales proudly supports Bay Cetology’s Northern Resident killer whale photo-identification program, helping ensure over 50 years of invaluable research continues. Our funding supports fieldwork, public access to the FinWave database, and long-term monitoring, protecting one of Canada’s most important scientific records of Northern Resident killer whales for future generations.
Ocean Wise | July 2026
We have recently donated $20,000 to support Ocean Wise’s field research in the Johnstone Strait, helping scientists conduct critical cetacean research in one of British Columbia’s most important whale habitats. This funding will support field operations, including whale photo-identification, biological sampling, behavioural observations, and data collection that contribute to the long-term conservation and understanding of whales along the BC coast.

Pacific Wild | June 2026
We are thrilled to support our very own captain, Sydney Dixon, in her research which investigates how marine nutrient access, such as salmon and herring spawns, influences space-sharing among large carnivores (bears, wolves, and cougars) on Nootka Island. Partnering with Pacific Wild and local First Nations, she utilizes trail cameras and DNA metabarcoding, recently incorporating detection dogs for field scat surveys.

Prince of Whales measures its carbon emissions each year with Victoria’s Synergy Enterprises, accounting for our Scope 1 and 2 emissions as well as all material Scope 3 emissions. We then offset our entire carbon footprint, plus an additional 10%, using high-quality, third-party verified carbon offsets from Vancouver-based Ostrom Climate.
1% for the Planet member
Prince of Whales is a proud member of 1% for the Planet, donating well beyond the 1% commitment each year. Through our Conservation Fund, we support marine research, habitat restoration, education, and conservation organizations working to protect the wildlife and ecosystems of the Salish Sea.

Prince of Whales is proud to be Biosphere Certified across all three of our operating locations Victoria, Vancouver, and Telegraph Cove. This internationally recognized certification reflects our commitment to responsible tourism, environmental stewardship, and continuous improvement.
OUR SUSTAINABILITY COMMITTEE
We are proud to have an internal, staff-led Sustainability Committee that brings together team members from across the company to identify new sustainability initiatives, improve our environmental practices, and foster a culture of conservation. The committee empowers employees to share ideas, lead projects, and make a meaningful impact both within our operations and throughout the communities where we work.

Double Bay Sanctuary Foundation Fundraiser
This September, Prince of Whales is proud to partner with the Double Bay Sanctuary Foundation for a special fundraising whale-watching trip departing from Telegraph Cove. Joining us onboard will be Michael Reppy, founder of the Double Bay Sanctuary Foundation, who will share more about the project, its progress, and the work being done at Double Bay. Funds raised through this special trip will help support the Double Bay Sanctuary Foundation and the continued development of the Sanctuary!
Plastic Free July
This month, Prince of Whales proudly takes part in Plastic Free July, a global movement encouraging people to reduce single-use plastics and protect our oceans. Throughout the month, we challenge ourselves, our guests, and our community to make small, sustainable changes that help keep marine habitats cleaner and safer for whales, sea otters, seabirds, and the countless other species that call British Columbia’s coastline home.
BC CrabFest
Our team members participated in BC CrabFest, hosting an educational booth to engage the community about invasive crab species in British Columbia. Through hands-on conversations and educational materials, we helped raise awareness about the impacts of invasive European green crabs on local ecosystems and the importance of protecting our native marine habitats.
Ocean Week
During Ocean Week, Prince of Whales hosted an interactive educational booth, connecting with hundreds of community members about marine wildlife, responsible ocean stewardship, and conservation in the Salish Sea. Our team also rolled up their sleeves to participate in the Ocean Week shoreline cleanup, helping remove litter and marine debris to protect the coastal habitats our wildlife depends on.
