FAQS

Do tours run in all types of weather?

Tours operate rain or shine! Safety is our priority and, in extreme weather conditions or high winds, adventures may be cancelled at the discretion of our qualified crew. We will be in touch should this be the case.

Will we really see whales?

Yes! There is a high chance of seeing orcas, humpbacks, and other types of whale on your tour. Our year-round whale sighting success rate is ~95% (averaged across all of our adventures) with chances being even higher during summer months.

What happens if we don’t see a whale?

This adventure is covered by our year-round Whale Sighting Guarantee. In the unlikely case, we do not see whales on this adventure, you can join us on another whale watching tour. This guarantee is valid for a lifetime!

Are there bathrooms on the boat?

The boat we use for this tour is equipped with two airline-style washrooms.

Do passengers often feel seasick?

No, our boats are custom-built for whale watching with passengers in mind. Captain and crew will also do their best to minimize the impact of the sea. However, if you are prone to seasickness, we recommend you purchase non-drowsy Gravol from a pharmacy prior to your adventure with us.

Do I need to make a reservation?

Reservations are definitely recommended. Adventures often sell out and we don’t want you to be disappointed.

Fun and Informative for all ages! WOW!! Days later I am still blown away. What a truly amazing experience my friend and I had with this tour company.
The staff on the boat were Aaron,Selena,Aurdra and Wilma who were all friendly and accommodating during the excursion never failing to offer hot beverages the entire trip. My friend and I sat on the top deck with Wilma who was just lovely and filled with knowledge and smiles. She had a great personality and taught us SOOOO much about the whales , specifically the group of Orcas we were able to see for an hour!!! Not only that, she also had so much to teach us about the other wild life, surrounding islands and the local flora and fauna. In comparison to the other whale watching companies Prince of whales seemed to have the bigger better boats. I am Sooo happy i was able to experience this. As a travel agent i would 10/10 recommend this to my clients :)

Loved it! This was a great way to see the city and get a bit of an adrenaline rush at the same time. Our guide did a great job explaining some history as well present day realities of the city of Vancouver, plus he was a great driver. It was a beautiful day and we had a blast speeding around on the zodiac. This is our first time to Vancouver so it was a perfect orientation. The next day we rode bikes around Stanley Park so it was really cool to see the sights from both the water side and the land side.

Up close whale encounter Small boat more personal, quicker & easier to manoeuvre to follow whales as they hunt for fish. Our Guide/ Driver, Joe was very polite, considerate & knowledgeable. He tried to get as as close as he was allowed to the whales after spotting them, stopping the boat so they might swim towards us. We were lucky enough to see a group of about 6 orcas that were local to that area. In saying that they travel quite a distance so may only be seen every few weeks, especially in the winter. We also saw a couple of eagles, sea lions & sea otters, however the orcas were definitely the highlight... so beautiful to see them in the wild. More exciting than on a big boat with a lot of people, although cold we were given waterproof jumpsuits, beanies & gloves & told to dress warm. Perfect end to our Canadian Holiday.

Perfect way to spot orcas! My wife and family went to Victoria to stay a night before heading back to Vancouver. I really wanted to do some whale watching before we headed home, and we just happen to walk by this place in town. Could not have been happier! The staff was very knowledge and helpful. They had phone chargers (bring your own cable though) on the boat, as well as hot and cold beverages and some snacks to purchase on the boat. The boat was great and comfy; you could go inside and escape the cold air and get a beverage or had on the top deck to spot the whales! We spotted them very quickly and I got some really awesome photos with my camera I Brought with me. They also had blankets on board if ya got a little too chilly.

Highlight of our visit to Vancouver The Prince of Whales half day whale-watching tour was the highlight of our family visit to Vancouver this July! The captain and crew were all delightful and did a fantastic job explaining what to expect and the regulations in place to protect the wildlife. They obviously love their jobs and all the different kinds of people they get to work with every day. The initial sales person suggested we dress warmly and bring a substantial snack, as we could be out between 3 to 5 hours depending on when the whales were spotted. They had blankets and hot chocolate/tea/coffee aboard to keep us warm, but we were also glad we dressed in sweatshirts and windbreakers and brought along a couple extra blankets. We sat on top and the trip was windy and exhilarating! We brought along a camera and binoculars, but we didn't use either. Instead we just thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We were concerned our 8 year old might get bored, but he enjoyed the entire time (especially the hot chocolate). Our teenage daughter loved it, too. There is a guarantee that if we didn't see whales, we could have taken another tour in the future (no expiration). We were delighted that we got to see both male and female orcas, but even if we hadn't, it was a thoroughly enjoyable ride (they have a 90%+ success rate, so no worries). We took a taxi to and from downtown to Granville Island where the tour took off from. Arrive a couple hours early to explore the Granville Market and then check in 1/2 hour before the adventure begins. You can buy a snack or lunch at the Public Market.

Great afternoon of whale watching We had a great time on this trip. Weather was perfect and our captain Aaron and naturalist Wilma did an awesome job. We saw harbour seals, bald eagles and both Orca and Humpback whales.

Aaron did a good job finding the whales and getting us into position for viewing - though be aware, for the whales' safety you are about 200 yards away from them.

Wilma was awesome in telling us about the area and was armed with what seemed an infinite supply of knowledge about the whales and other wildlife.

The boat was very clean and comfortable with multiple areas for sitting - inside, outside and such. Do bring layers because even on a warm day it can be cool.
