Do tours run in all types of weather?

Tours operate rain or shine! Safety is our priority and, in extreme weather conditions or high winds, adventures may be cancelled at the discretion of our qualified crew. We will be in touch should this be the case.

Will we really see whales?

Yes! There is a high chance of seeing orcas, humpbacks, and other types of whale on your tour. Our year-round whale sighting success rate is ~95% (averaged across all of our adventures) with chances being even higher during summer months.

What happens if we don’t see a whale?

This adventure is covered by our year-round Whale Sighting Guarantee. In the unlikely case, we do not see whales on this adventure, you can join us on another whale watching tour. This guarantee is valid for a lifetime!

Are there bathrooms on the boat?

The boat we use for this tour is equipped with two airline-style washrooms.

Do passengers often feel seasick?

No, our boats are custom-built for whale watching with passengers in mind. Captain and crew will also do their best to minimize the impact of the sea. However, if you are prone to seasickness, we recommend you purchase non-drowsy Gravol from a pharmacy prior to your adventure with us.

Do I need to make a reservation?

Reservations are definitely recommended. Adventures often sell out and we don’t want you to be disappointed.

Second time lucky- one pod of Orcas, one humpback, seals & birds. We ended up taking two trips for the price of one, as we didn't manage to find whales on our first outing. We were booked on to another trip the following day for free, as per their guarantee.

We have been on safari before as well as numerous other wildlife excursions, including whale watching, so we fully appreciate how unpredictable nature can be. While it is always disappointing to miss out on a sighting, much of the enjoyment from these experiences comes from going out into another creatures' habitat, learning about their behaviour and characteristics and actively looking for the various species. With this in mind, we still enjoyed every second of being out there on the deck of the comfortable catamaran, learning about the native marine and bird species from the very informative naturalists as we sailed around the beautiful waters North of Victoria.

The second outing was more fruitful. We located a pod of Orcas after about half an hour of cruising, staying with the them for a number of breathe cycles (about 30mins) before backing off and allowing other boats to approach. There were other boats there and the crew were very mindful of not encroaching too closely on the orcas, but we still had a good encounter nonetheless.

On the way back we were lucky enough to also spot a humpback whale, which we loved just as much as seeing the orcas.

During the journey, Lili, Maya and Rory (the on-board naturalists) were positioned on each deck and were sharing all their knowledge about the various species of whale, the larger ecosystem and some of the challenges that they face. They also kindly shared some of their photos afterwards, as their camera equipment was more professional than most passengers.

We would heartily recommend using this company for whale watching tours. They are very professional, friendly and care deeply about the native species. Previous experience has taught us that less reputable operators are not inclined to treat the whales or their habitat with such respect so we felt like we had made the right choice with Prince of Whales.

Great time with our son We were so pleased to hear that Prince of Whales had re-opened and that they were undertaking Covid precautions.

Today we went out with our son for the first time and had the best trip ever. We’ve been several times before with family so we love the experience the crew give.

We have to say that the crew went over and above to ensure they and everyone in board were safe and understood all we needed to know and the instructions were clear and easy to understand whilst still allowing for a great experience. We highly recommend you go if you can. We will be coming back in August for more stay at home vacation days.

Thank you to David and all the crew for a wonderful memory for us and our son.

Amazing trip and lots of animals sighted Myself, my parents and my husband were visiting Victoria from May 6-8 and we went whale watching on the 7th. It was an incredible experience with our first whale sighting (a humpback) happening in the first hour near the protected area where we also saw sean lions, seals and Ollie the sea otter. Our naturalists on board were Seanie, Lawren, Valerie, Maia, and Lili. We sat up top with Lili for most of the trip and she was extremely experienced and informative. She helped us have the best trip possible and even explained how to tell the difference between animal sightings vs. false sightings. The first whale we saw was a humpback and it was magical. The second one happened on the US boarder and it was a grey whale right near the beach. The sun was shining and the day was excellent. I'm so glad I got to share this experience with my husband and parents and would highly recommend the Prince of Whales tour to anyone looking for a comfortable adventure with lots of information and magical sightings.

Orca watching We were meet by Olivia, who was very friendly and helpful giving us info and taking us to the boat. Erin the skipper welcomed everyone and guided us through a fantastic time out on the water. Rebecca kept us supplied with tea, coffee, hot chocolate, etc. Wilma, our marine biologist was amazing. She had great knowledge and enthusiasm for not only the Orcas, which we found within 30mins of starting the tour, but for all the wildlife we saw in and out the water. I would recommend this trip to everyone.

Amazing and informative experience. We were so glad that we went whale watching. It wasn't the cheapest activity but seeing as some of the money goes towards conservation then that was fine by us. We went with the mindset that we'd be pleased with whatever we saw and we got very lucky as we we're able to follow a pod of orca as well as seeing humpback whales. The staff were brilliant in particular Mike the captain and Jen the first mate who was on hand to answer any questions and show us pictures of the orcas that we had just seen. Jen was also brilliant with the children on board. I would definitely recommend this to any nature lovers.

I would just ensure that you leave plenty of time to get from Downtown to Granville Island if you weren't getting a taxi as it's a good walk + short bus boat across to the island.

Amazing experience! My family (all adults), boyfriend and I did the 8:15am whale watching tour from Victoria on August 27th. All of the staff was amazing and super informative. Both Laura and Lili were very friendly and very knowledgeable about questions we had. Lili also gave a lot of scientific facts about the whales while we were out looking for them which I really enjoyed. Captain Bill and the photographer on the trip were also very welcoming and informative.

We saw two pods of Orca that were swimming together from afar, and three Humpback Whales. Two Humpbacks were swimming together and were pretty dormant and potentially napping when we first saw them. The best part of the experience was that those two whales woke up and were very energetic afterwards. They breached several times and at one point both breached at the same time (double breach) which was VERY AMAZING to see. You could see how excited the crew was about it and everyone else on board was amazed. I'm so glad we chose to go on the catamaran cruise with Prince of Whales and would definitely recommend!

Amazing experience This is a must-do experience in Vancouver! My partner and I were only in town for about two days and we’re both so glad we dedicated half a day to this tour! The Prince of Whales boat is the perfect size and the crew was super knowledgeable and enthusiastic. We saw a pod of transient orcas (killer whales) and learned so much about them. We also saw seals and bald eagles and the scenery was unbelievable. We loved Jen, the first mate, and Aaron, the captain—they made the experience very special! Thank you!!

Wow! Best whale watching ever! We had the most amazing day out on the water. The staff were so professional and knowledgeable. We saw killer whales (they even jumped out of the water !!) Humpback whales, dolphins, sea lions and seals!! The catamaran was so comfortable and I saw the staff constantly cleaning for Covid. This was a fabulous group of staff. They even walked around to show us photos and markers to identify the whales we saw that day and answer any questions we had. It was the best whale Watching I have ever experienced! Thank you Bill, Joe , Lili, Valerie and Seanie!!
