Experience

Experience the majesty of the Salish Sea and its wildlife, from whales surfacing in unison to bald eagles soaring overhead. Cut through the Strait of Juan de Fuca’s currents in search of orcas and humpback whales, and listen to our marine mammal experts bring the animals stories to life (while you stay warm, dry and hydrated in its heated cabin, of course!) The quintessential whale watching experience for every adventurer.

Did you know? Bald eagles mate for life, like wolves (we have those, too!)

What To Bring

It gets cold out on the water (trust us!), so we recommend windbreaker jackets, sweaters, long pants, and closed-toe shoes. It’s also a good idea to bring sunglasses, sunscreen, a tight-fitting hat, a camera to capture some memorable moments and, above all, your sense of adventure!

Onboard snacks are available for purchase with CAD cash only (no credit/debit cards accepted) but please feel free to bring your own snacks if you wish.

Gostei demais! Atendentes na loja também super simpáticas. Parabéns a toda equipe pelo trabalho!

Unreal, once in a lifetime Some outstanding spotting from the crew had us trailing 3 humpbacks; all good, stunning to watch. And yet somehow they trumped it! Patience somehow had one of the whales within touching distance of the boat, just resting besides it, all whilst other company’s boats looked on enviously! Didn’t see the orcas, but got some good closeups with sea lions, as well as another group of humpbacks feeding. Unbelievable day, worth every penny!

We all enjoyed the day going to Vancouver Island The whale watching trip out of Vancouver was fun and the folks on the boat were great. They engaged with everyone on board. We saw some Orcas and the views were lovely. Victoria is beautiful and Butchard Gardens a delight. High tea in the restaurant was delicious. It was perfect being able to leave from Butchart cove.

Amazing Humpbacks and great naturalist ! I went on a Half Day Whale Watching last Friday with Prince of Whales and it was fantastic. The crew was fantastic and the trip by itself a real beautiful experience. I had the chance to see 3 male humpbacks in 3 different locations and some Steller Sea Lions too. The tour was about 4 hours long and the boat was pretty comfortable. There is free hot beverages on the boat to warm you up as it can be a little bit cold in the morning, especially with the wind factor. I want to to a big thumb up to Stu, amazing naturalist who was taking care of the passengers in the inside area of the boat. Stu was fantastic, full of knowledge, amazing tips about the humpbacks and he came to me so many times to make sure I was feeling alright and having a great time. I recommend this tour to anyone. Thank You Prince of Whales !

We saw a pod of 3 whales This was an amazing trip and experience. We booked the half day trip. Crew were friendly and attentive. Becky and Aurora were so knowledgeable, clearly subject matter experts in their field and passionate about marine conservation.
We were very fortunate to come across a pod of three killer whales. A truly unforgettable experience.
If you are able to, book this for the first part of your stay in Vancouver so that if no whales are seen you can go out again free of charge.

Awesome Adventure My daughter and I were on our first ever visit to Victoria and spontaneously decided to take the Zodiac whale watching tour. We were not disappointed. It was an incredible experience. We saw lots of wildlife, including seals, sea lions, bald eagle, and of course, killer whales. The whales we saw were a family group and our guide was extremely knowledgable about them. It was also just a blast to be out on the water. We sat in the front row of the boat, so we had great views and all the wave jumping we could want. It was a truly memorable experience that elevated our trip from very good to beyond great. I would highly recommend it for anyone willing to wear a survival suit and enjoy the speed, bumps, and thrills.

One whale of a time!! Awesome tour! Definitely take the hat and gloves as the boat was SUPER cold and windy! Even though we only got to see one whale, the tour was still worth it! I would definitely call to make a reservation - we booked online and they had to move us as there weren’t enough people on the boat to run a tour. Overall great experience!

Tours operate rain or shine! Safety is our priority and, in extreme weather conditions or high winds, adventures may be cancelled at the discretion of our qualified crew. We will be in touch should this be the case.

Will we really see whales?

Yes! There is a high chance of seeing orcas, humpbacks, and other types of whale on your tour. Our year-round whale sighting success rate is ~95% (averaged across all of our adventures) with chances being even higher during summer months.

Are there bathrooms on the boat?

The boat we use for this tour is equipped with two airline-style washrooms.

Do passengers often feel seasick?

No, our boats are custom-built for whale watching with passengers in mind. Captain and crew will also do their best to minimize the impact of the sea. However, if you are prone to seasickness, we recommend you purchase non-drowsy Gravol from a pharmacy prior to your adventure with us.

Are there snacks or beverages on board?

Complementary tea, coffee & hot chocolate will be available on board. Light snacks (chips, cookies, chocolate bars) can be purchased with CAD cash. You can also bring your own snacks.
