Experience

Experience the majesty of the Salish Sea and its wildlife, from whales surfacing in unison to bald eagles soaring overhead. Cut through the Strait of Juan de Fuca’s currents in search of orcas and humpback whales, and listen to our marine mammal experts bring the animals stories to life (while you stay warm, dry and hydrated in its heated cabin, of course!) The quintessential whale watching experience for every adventurer.

Did you know? Bald eagles mate for life, like wolves (we have those, too!)

What To Bring

It gets cold out on the water (trust us!), so we recommend windbreaker jackets, sweaters, long pants, and closed-toe shoes. It’s also a good idea to bring sunglasses, sunscreen, a tight-fitting hat, a camera to capture some memorable moments and, above all, your sense of adventure!

Onboard snacks are available for purchase with CAD cash only (no credit/debit cards accepted) but please feel free to bring your own snacks if you wish.

Great trip! Our guide was fantastic! We saw a number of whales, one swam around and under our zodiac a few times which was amazing. I'd use this company again.

Half day whale watch tour This tour far exceeded my expectations. I was hoping to catch a glimpse of some whales, but about an hour in we came upon a small pod and got to watch them for about an hour. Our guide stayed on the upper deck with us and explained the behaviors they were exhibiting. She was extremely knowledgeable and familiar with this particular group of whales. We also saw sea lions and a bald eagle. There was an enclosed cabin in case of inclement weather which looked warm and inviting.

A childhood dream came true We decided to go on a whale watching tour twice and both times were so amazing. Best 140 dollars we spent so far on our canada trip! Both times we saw orcas and humpback whales, sea lions and other marine life. The crew scotty and alan knew very much about the different whales and shared their knowledge with us. Scotty also put a hydrophone in the water so we heard the orcas communicating with each other, which was amazing. He was respectful and always kept a good distance with the boat so that the whales didn‘t get stressed out. Thanks a lot we definitely would come back :)

An unforgettable excursion We were thrilled by our half day Whale watching excursion - it was unforgettable! We were lucky enough to see Humpback whales and then Killer Whales all in our 5 hour adventure. It’s simply magical to see them in the wild. Our family includes a 6 year old and a 15 year old both thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It’s got to be said that the crew were fantastic and extremely knowledgeable. Wilma was our guide on top deck and she was simply brilliant. She walked the boat engaging each and every one of the passengers with friendly chat and helpful insight. My 6 year old loved her! If you are planning a trip to Vancouver don’t miss the chance to enjoy this adventure Whale watching! Oh and take warm clothes and hats (even if it’s summer time!)

Highlight of our visit to Vancouver The Prince of Whales half day whale-watching tour was the highlight of our family visit to Vancouver this July! The captain and crew were all delightful and did a fantastic job explaining what to expect and the regulations in place to protect the wildlife. They obviously love their jobs and all the different kinds of people they get to work with every day. The initial sales person suggested we dress warmly and bring a substantial snack, as we could be out between 3 to 5 hours depending on when the whales were spotted. They had blankets and hot chocolate/tea/coffee aboard to keep us warm, but we were also glad we dressed in sweatshirts and windbreakers and brought along a couple extra blankets. We sat on top and the trip was windy and exhilarating! We brought along a camera and binoculars, but we didn't use either. Instead we just thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We were concerned our 8 year old might get bored, but he enjoyed the entire time (especially the hot chocolate). Our teenage daughter loved it, too. There is a guarantee that if we didn't see whales, we could have taken another tour in the future (no expiration). We were delighted that we got to see both male and female orcas, but even if we hadn't, it was a thoroughly enjoyable ride (they have a 90%+ success rate, so no worries). We took a taxi to and from downtown to Granville Island where the tour took off from. Arrive a couple hours early to explore the Granville Market and then check in 1/2 hour before the adventure begins. You can buy a snack or lunch at the Public Market.

Very interesting and informative Spent about five hours on the water. Saw 4 orcas (killer whales) and learned a great many things about them. Saw sea lions sunning on buoy markers and tons of seals. We also saw at least two bald eagles, one very close. The naturalists on board were very good and very informative. I would highly recommend it especially for families.

Tours operate rain or shine! Safety is our priority and, in extreme weather conditions or high winds, adventures may be cancelled at the discretion of our qualified crew. We will be in touch should this be the case.

Will we really see whales?

Yes! There is a high chance of seeing orcas, humpbacks, and other types of whale on your tour. Our year-round whale sighting success rate is ~95% (averaged across all of our adventures) with chances being even higher during summer months.

The boat we use for this tour is equipped with two airline-style washrooms.

Do passengers often feel seasick?

No, our boats are custom-built for whale watching with passengers in mind. Captain and crew will also do their best to minimize the impact of the sea. However, if you are prone to seasickness, we recommend you purchase non-drowsy Gravol from a pharmacy prior to your adventure with us.
