There’s exciting news from the Salish Sea T075B “Pebbles”, a well-known Bigg’s (Transient) killer whale, has been spotted with a brand-new calf, T075B5! As of late August 2025, the mother and her calf have been observed in the Salish Sea, actively hunting and navigating the strong tidal waters that make this region so rich in marine life.
On September 5th, our team was lucky enough to watch Pebbles and her young calf travelling off the coast of Victoria. Seeing Bigg’s killer whales with new offspring is always thrilling, as every new calf represents hope for the future of their population.
Pebbles has long been recognized as a strong and skilled hunter, and it’s already clear that she is passing on these survival skills to her newborn. The sight of mother and calf working the waters together is not only heartwarming but also an important sign of the health and strength of her matriline.
With T075B5 now the newest member of the T075B family group, their presence adds to the ongoing story of Bigg’s orcas in the Pacific Northwest. Each birth strengthens their population and offers scientists, conservationists, and whale watchers alike a glimpse into the tight-knit social bonds that define these remarkable marine mammals.
As the season continues, we look forward to more sightings of Pebbles and her calf, and to sharing their journey as they grow, hunt, and thrive in the waters of the Salish Sea. Want to see Bigg’s killer whales in the Salish Sea? Join us on board!
