How Prince of Whales and Partners Are Protecting Marine Wildlife
At Prince of Whales, sustainability has always been at the heart of our operations. As stewards of the Salish Sea, we recognize our profound responsibility to ensure the health and well-being of the ocean and its many inhabitants. Our commitment to conservation drives us to protect and preserve this invaluable ecosystem proactively.
On Tuesday, July 23rd, our Sales and Marketing Team, along with members of our Operations staff and representatives from Surfrider and Transport Canada, embarked on a zodiac cleanup of the gorge waterway. We collected tires, plastic, glass, food wrappers, rope, foam, clothing, fabrics, appliances, and more, as shown in the image above. We collected a total of 380kg of trash from the Inner Harbour and Gorge, a huge feat! Cleaning up shoreline garbage prevents rubbish from entering the main waterways and the ocean, which is vital for safeguarding marine wildlife, preserving ecosystem health, and ensuring the beauty and vitality of waterways. These pollutants release microplastics and toxins into the water, degrading water quality and posing the risk of entanglement and other hazards for marine animals.
This cleanup, held in collaboration with the Surfrider Foundation and Transport Canada, allowed us to pool our resources, knowledge, and passion for the ocean’s welfare. The combined efforts of our dedicated team, volunteer staff, and partners made a tangible impact on the local marine environment, highlighting the power of community action in environmental stewardship.
We express our heartfelt gratitude to the Surfrider Foundation and Transport Canada, and all our staff who volunteered to contribute to the success of the cleanup initiative. We always strive to lead and promote community-led environmental action in all the communities we are proud to serve.
