Prince of Whales Team Cleans Up Victoria’s Waterfront in Collaboration with Other Local Businesses
On April 22nd, our team at Prince of Whales in Victoria rolled up our sleeves and joined forces for the Earth Day Power Hour, a dedicated hour where teams across the city step up to clean their communities. From 12 to 1 p.m., our crew took to the streets, shorelines, and seawalls around our main office at 812 Wharf Street to show some love to the place we call home.
Armed with gloves, grabbers, and a whole lot of enthusiasm, we focused our efforts on Ship Point, the Wharf Street garden, and the surrounding waterfront. We split into three teams and had a friendly internal competition between our Marine Crew, Office, and Guest Services teams. The competition was close, and our fantastic Marine Crew won!
Our team gathered hundreds of littered items, which reminded us of how much impact just one hour can make. Among the debris we collected:
- Cigarette butts
- Paper and Styrofoam waste
- Food and drink containers
- Abandoned kitchen appliances and clothing
- Shoes, hangers, and random household items
- Lids and even small pieces of discarded furniture
Our haul came from both land and sea, and every piece removed was one less pollutant in the Salish Sea ecosystem we work to protect every day. We’re proud to be part of a community that values sustainability and stewardship, and even prouder of our team for taking action. After all, caring for the ocean starts right at our doorstep.
Beyond shoreline cleanups, Prince of Whales is deeply committed to sustainability through initiatives such as our Biosphere Certification, offsetting 110% of carbon emissions, supporting herring recovery projects, partnering with marine conservation organizations, and leading industry-wide efforts in responsible wildlife viewing practices. Our sustainability committee makes sure that all our practices are as sustainable as possible and that we keep cruising towards a cleaner future.
Here’s to cleaner shores and a healthier planet, not just on Earth Day, but every day!
