Prince of Whales

A Splashing Success!

Greetings, fellow ocean enthusiasts! We’re excited to share the resounding success of our recent full-day photography tour at Prince of Whales on 24/09. This adventure was nothing short of magical, and we can’t wait to host more like it in the future. We were joined on board by amazing photographers and other whale enthusiasts who were ready to capture some stunning images of the beauties of the Salish Sea. Our day began with high hopes, and the ocean didn’t disappoint:

Half a Dozen Humpbacks: We were able to spot six different Humpbacks during our time on the tour. We marvelled at Zillion’s calf breaching over 20 times right in front of Race Rocks. Truly spectacular!

Four Different Killer Whale Groups: Killer whales stole the show, from hunting birds in mid-air to playful jumps and even kelping behaviour. One of these groups, the uncommon visitors, T028As, made the day even more special.

Sea Otter, Eagles, Seals, and Sea Lions: The marine life diversity amazed us. We were able to spot sea lions at Race Rocks, eagles, curious harbour seals and, of course, our favourite sea otter, Ollie.

Diverse Birdlife: Bird enthusiasts enjoyed vultures relaxing on the rocks, as well as cormorants, gulls, and many others. Around this time of year, many birds start their migration, and it’s truly a spectacular time of the year for bird watchers and photographers alike.

Harbour Porpoises: We even spotted some harbour porpoises gliding gracefully through the water. Porpoises are usually very difficult to spot, but with longer time on the water, we were able to view a few!

Lighthouses and Wolf Mural: We visited Race Rocks Lighthouse, where a breaching whale added drama, and Trial Island, home to the captivating wolf mural. When we approached the mural, we noticed sea lions right in front of it, giving us the perfect photo opportunity!

The day was blessed with flat, calm seas and not a drop of rain until we were on our way back when it drizzled. Despite the brief rain, everyone had an absolute blast.

Our dedicated crew’s expertise and passion made this day exceptional. We’re thrilled that our guests captured these memories through their lenses. Stay tuned for future tours on our website and social media, as well as some of the incredible images we were able to capture during this tour!
